Your role and responsibilities

The Technology & Innovation Manager for Industries will lead the development of technology, platforms, and portfolios for ABB Robotics' functional modules and application cells within the Industries segment. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability of scalable global platforms built on competitive and innovative technical solutions. You will translate customer needs into clear product requirements and performance targets, define and execute technology and architectural roadmaps, and govern global platforms throughout the full R&D lifecycle—approving both architectural and technical solutions.

Key responsibilities include increasing technology readiness levels and ensuring optimal system design during both technology and product development phases. You will also develop and oversee robust development processes to support long-term innovation and scalability. You will have end-to-end responsibility for engineering change management—covering both existing products and those in development—while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, standards, and internal policies.

In this role, you are expected to challenge the status quo by introducing state-of-the-art technologies, modern development methodologies, and effective governance models. Your forward-thinking mindset will help position technology as a key enabler of future business opportunities in robotics.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Define and drive the innovation and technology roadmap aligned with business strategy.
• Oversee the technology development portfolio and ensure project alignment with long-term goals.
• Establish design guidelines and technical criteria for consistent, scalable product development.
• Lead global requirement request management and governance across multiple stakeholders.
• Drive standardization and industrialization to optimize product platforms and accelerate time-to-market.
• Manage a senior, globally distributed team of ~30 engineers, providing architectural and technology guidance.
• Develop and govern development and change management processes for efficient product evolution.
• Manage and prioritize incoming R&D requests from business units and customers.
• Operate effectively in a global role, coordinating across regions and cultures.

Qualifications for the role

• MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in product development and technology management, including project or line management roles.
• At least 5 years of international experience in a global role and/or on international assignments.
• Strong expertise in robotics technology and artificial intelligence, with a thorough understanding of the complete robot lifecycle.
• In-depth knowledge of product platforms and modularity principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skill to persuade and engage people across multiple functions and geographies.
• Ability to deal with complex, global context of a large multinational.
