What will you do as an Intern for Maintenance Department Work Order Process Optimization?

At our Terminal in Vlissingen, as an intern, you will dive deep into the work order process of our Maintenance Department. Your mission: to analyze and optimize this crucial process to ensure operational continuity, minimize downtime, and perfect the deployment of resources (personnel, materials, time). The Maintenance Department is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and management of various technical installations and assets, and an efficient work order process is essential for this. You will identify bottlenecks that lead to inefficiencies, delays, or unnecessary costs and formulate concrete recommendations for improvement. A specific point of attention here is the coordination of asset availability with the operations department. Your internship supervisor will be the Maintenance Engineer at Vopak Vlissingen, and you will work closely with the Maintenance Department team.

What do we offer you?

  • An internship allowance of €575 per month based on a 40-hour work week.
  • Your workplace will be at our Vopak location in Vlissingen.
  • You will gain relevant experience in analyzing and optimizing complex business processes, specifically focused on maintenance management within an industrial environment. You will learn to identify bottlenecks, develop data-driven solutions, and present improvement proposals to stakeholders.
  • As an intern, you can make a good impression for a potential future application for an attractive entry-level position or a management traineeship.
  • A lot of freedom. Do you take initiative? We appreciate that.

What do we expect from you as an Intern for Maintenance Department Work Order Process Optimization?

  • You are pursuing an HBO (University of Applied Sciences) or WO (Research University) bachelor's or master's degree in Technical Business Administration or Industrial Engineering and Management.
  • You have an interest in logistics processes and maintenance management.
  • You have strong analytical skills, can work independently, and are proactive in finding solutions.
  • You possess good communication skills to collaborate effectively and gather information.
  • Experience with process analysis techniques (e.g., flowcharting, root cause analysis) is a plus.
  • A minimum availability of 20 weeks to successfully complete the assignment.

What does your day look like?

During your internship, you will be engaged in various daily tasks with the aim to:

  • Detail the current work order process (from request to completion and archiving) through interviews, observations, and document analysis.
  • Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and their causes within the work order process and quantify them where possible (e.g., lead times, information transfer, resource planning).
  • Investigate and compare opportunities for efficiency improvement (e.g., process optimization, digitalization, new tools/systems, adjustment of roles).
  • Formulate concrete, well-founded recommendations, including their potential impact and a plan for implementation and monitoring.
  • Clearly report and present your findings and recommendations.
