The Assignment

Our robotic applications must synchronize with a moving conveyor chain to process products effectively. Upon completing the processing, the robot halts conveyor tracking and returns to its home position. To achieve this, we install an encoder on the main conveyor chain to monitor real-time speed. This necessitates designing and installing a custom sprocket and encoder setup for each robot installation. To streamline this process, we aim to explore whether a vision (camera) system can monitor the actual speed of passing products and relay this information in real-time to the robot cell for synchronization.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will explore the feasibility of developing and implementing a vision system to monitor conveyor speed and relay this data to the robot for synchronization.

  • Set up project plan including activities, time, cost, risks.
  • Review current system.
  • Create a program of requirements.
  • Validate program of requirements with stakeholders.
  • Create Value Proposition / Business Case for the customer and for Marel.
  • Develop prototype with the team including mechanical design, hardware and software.
  • Create test specification for in-house test.
