You are the architectural driving force behind KPN's transformation towards a future-proof converged transport network. As Architect IP/Optical, you define and evolve the target architecture of KPN’s FabriQ platform, integrating cutting-edge IP and Optical transport technologies. You translate strategic goals into detailed designs and lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure scalability, operational efficiency, and long-term resilience.

• Define and evolve the target architecture for KPN’s Metro, Core, and Peering networks, covering IP/MPLS (SRv6, Segment Routing, EVPN) and Optical Transport (WDM, OTN).
• Translate the FabriQ strategy into detailed architectural designs, network principles, and multi-layer design patterns.
• Collaborate with strategy leads to ensure architectural alignment with business objectives and customer value creation.
• Act as architectural lead during technology evaluations, proof-of-concepts, and vendor engagements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring across engineering, operations, and project teams to ensure successful transformation.

As an Architect IP/Optical at KPN, you shape the future of our digital network infrastructure. This vacancy puts you at the heart of FabriQ—KPN’s strategic transformation of its Metro, Core, and Peering networks. You’ll work within the Strategy, Transformation and Architecture department, alongside a close-knit team of strategy leads, architects, and transformation leaders. You’ll be part of the Network & Cloud team: a dedicated group of strategists, architects, and transformation experts passionate about technology and innovation. Together, you work within the Technology Office—KPN’s innovation engine—where strategy is translated into action and real results.

You are a visionary architect with a hands-on approach. You simplify complexity, build scalable and resilient designs, and communicate technical decisions clearly at all levels. You combine strategic awareness with technical depth and enjoy guiding transformation across organizational boundaries. To be successful in this role, you’ll need the following:

• Proven experience in telecom network architecture, with strong expertise in SRv6, IP/MPLS (BGP, IS-IS, Segment Routing, EVPN) and Optical Transport (WDM, OTN, coherent optics).
• A systems-thinking mindset with the ability to design for scalability, operational efficiency, and future-proof growth.
• Understanding of photonics, fiber infrastructure planning, optical switching, and converged IP-optical network design.
• Experience driving complex transformation programs in cross-functional environments.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate architectural choices and their business impact.
• Strategic awareness of technology trends, vendor landscapes, and market developments in IP and Optical networking.

As an employer, we offer you an attractive package, including:

• Gross monthly salary between €6,576 and €10,389, depending on your experience (based on 40 hours)
• A fixed 13th-month salary, partially paid monthly and partially in January
• Annual individual and collective salary increases according to our collective labor agreement (CAO)
