Intern Sustainability

At IKEA, we’re on a mission to make sustainable living affordable, accessible, and inspiring for the many people. As part of this journey, we are growing our secondhand proposition — giving products a second life and reducing waste. Now, we’re looking for a passionate and driven Intern in Sustainability to help us create a new Secondhand Pricing Model. This new pricing model needs to enable us to achieve our ambitious growth ambitions whilst making this more financially sustainable. This is your chance to work in a dynamic environment where your thorough analysis and ideas can shape the future.

A day in your life with us

You will be part of the IKEA Sustainability Team, where innovation meets action. Your main focus will be to develop a practical, scalable pricing model for our secondhand offers. You’ll dive into data, analyze market trends, customer behavior, and operational realities — and translate these insights into a model that works both for people and planet. If successful, this model could potentially be rolled out to other IKEA markets too.

Through a hands-on, test-and-learn approach, you’ll prototype, validate, and refine your pricing recommendations, working closely with colleagues from Sales, Business Navigation and Recovery.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze existing data on secondhand sales, customer willingness to pay, and operational costs
  • Develop and test a dynamic pricing framework that balances sustainability ambitions with business performance
  • Translate analytical insights into clear, practical recommendations and actions.
  • Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across IKEA functions.
  • Set up pilots and run experiments to continuously improve the pricing model based on real-world feedback
  • Present findings and proposals to internal stakeholders in a clear and convincing manner

Our team within IKEA

At IKEA, we started as a small mail-order business in Älmhult, Sweden, and have grown into a global brand found in 63 countries. Working with us means being part of a world of ideas where everyone is welcome, and you can be yourself. Our team is dedicated to making a difference for people and the planet, and we support each other in achieving our goals. At IKEA NL, the Sustainability Team is part of the Commercial department.

At IKEA, we value individuality and creativity. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Doing this internship as part of your school's degree. You're following an education at a Dutch school in the fields of Business, Economics, Data Science, Sustainability, or a related area.
  • You have strong analytical skills and a natural talent for working with numbers and data.
  • You know how to turn insights into concrete, actionable outcomes.
  • You are curious, hands-on, and not afraid to test, fail, learn, and try again.
  • You have excellent communication and collaboration skills; you can easily connect with a variety of people and build trust. Experience in organizing and leading projects or programs is a pre.
  • You are passionate about sustainability and share IKEA’s values of togetherness, cost-consciousness, and a positive impact.

We offer you:

  • A unique opportunity to work on one of IKEA’s most exciting sustainability ambitions.
  • A dynamic, supportive, and open working environment where your ideas and initiatives are valued.
  • Hands-on experience with cross-functional collaboration in a global company.
  • Coaching and learning opportunities to help you grow professionally and personally.
  • The chance to make a tangible impact on making sustainable living accessible to the many.

Good for the planet and for you

What we do today, we do a little better tomorrow. By working together, we can care for people and the planet. And IKEA takes good care of you too.
