Biodiversity Day

The Radboud campus is one of the greenest and most biodiverse campuses in the Netherlands. Some locations even house rare plants and animals, including the tuberous stonebrush, the stone carnation, and the knautia bee. During Biodiversity Day on 22 May, we will reflect on the species richness of our campus.

From pond to pond walk

This day there will be a lunch walk led by guide Hub Nijssen. Nijssen, a policy officer at FNWI in daily life, has been following nature on campus with great enthusiasm for many years. He regularly shares his observations in Waarneming.nl, a biodiversity platform for citizen science and monitoring. Hub Nijssen will take us along some of his favourite locations and explain how you can record your observations. We will gather at 12.30 at the 'wild' pond in the grounds of the Berchmanianum, near Heyendaalseweg. The walk will take a maximum of one hour. Working language is Dutch. You can register by sending an e-mail to radboudwandelingen [at] ru.nl.

Prepare for the BioBlitz

Do you enjoy sharing your observations too? Then join the BioBlitz! With a BioBlitz, you try to record as many natural species as possible in a defined time. Last year, Radboud University participated in the BioBlitz organised by Dutch universities and colleges. Last year's challenge was to collectively capture 2,400 species. A number that was amply achieved. This year too, Radboud University is participating again and in 2025, the challenge has been made even bigger with 2,500 sightings, to be recorded between 22 May and 22 June. To participate, you must at least put the free app Obsidentify on your phone. This will analyse the photo you took of the plant or animal and tell you what it is. This will open up a whole new world to you!
