Join Our Digital Service Platform Stream

Vanderlande provides baggage handling systems for 600 airports around the globe, capable of moving over 4 billion pieces of baggage around the world per year. For the parcel market, our systems handle 52 million parcels per day. All these systems generate data. Do you see a challenge in building data-driven services for our customers using that data? Do you want to contribute to the fast-growing Vanderlande Technology Department on its journey to become more data-driven? If so, then join our Digital Service Platform stream!

Your Position

The DSP is a department established within the Technology department (former R&D). The DSP develops data-driven digital services – such as a customer portal, connected systems, performance reporting, and predictive maintenance – in close cooperation with the Vanderlande Business Units (BUs) and its customers. The department is organized around dedicated multidisciplinary product teams who work closely together with other teams from Technology, ICT, BUs, and external partners. Key in this is service design thinking, agile way of working, and a relentless focus on data and insights, particularly leveraging Azure Cloud & IoT Edge capabilities.

You will work together with the Operational Awareness Parcel team to transform our digital services from siloed products into a highly integrated user experience. You will leverage your front-end expertise to build maintainable micro frontends (using module federation), migrating existing dashboards, visualizations, and reports from Splunk, as well as building out new products. As a member of the front-end guild, you will work with other front-end engineers from across the platform to build out standards and utilities, discuss technical innovation, and plan high-level maintenance (such as core dependency upgrades). Furthermore, you will be an evangelist for best practices and support more junior engineers, or others hoping to learn more about front-end development.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You build and develop our responsive web application that works well on a variety of screen resolutions and browsers.
  • You support in migrating existing dashboards developed in Splunk towards custom angular microfrontends.
  • You develop new features for our products and services which provide our customers with actionable information through multiple channels.
  • You participate in end-to-end development through prototyping, validation, implementation, launch, and further iterations.
  • You actively contribute to continuous integration efforts and improvements in our way of working.
  • You participate as a member of the front-end guild, aligning with other engineers on standards and technical innovation.
  • You collaborate with UX designers to develop appealing and intuitive interfaces based on graphic designs or mock-ups.
  • You guide and mentor other front-end developers (and aspiring front-end developers) and help them out when necessary.

Your Profile

  • You have experience in developing online applications using micro front end architectures, especially those containing a lot of data.
  • You have experience with and/or skills in UX design/development – you can create an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface based on (or without any) minimal mock-ups.
  • You have recent experience with Angular 14+, Typescript, RxJS, NgRx/Redux, Web Performance, Web Workers, HTML5 (+ markdown), CSS/SCSS.
  • You have experience using and contributing to a design system.
  • Cloud experience with one or more major cloud providers – Azure preferable.
  • You have experience in building effective data visualizations for large and often complex data sets, with tooling like D3.js, SVG, ChartJs, etc.
  • You have experience with bundling tools such as Webpack (5), Vite, Rollup, etc.
  • You have experience with developer tooling: Git (bitbucket), WSL, container technologies (e.g. Docker), Kubernetes.
  • You know how to develop secure front-end applications and are familiar with OAuth2.
  • You have experience writing different types of tests like unit testing (Jest), e2e testing (Playwright), visual, and/or consumer-driven contract testing (Pact).
  • You have excellent problem-solving and verbal communication skills, highly proficient in English.
  • You are proficient in reactive, declarative, and object-oriented programming.
  • You know how to close the customer feedback loop and continuously improve the front-end apps.
  • Advantageous to have some hands-on experience in:
    • DevOps tooling for test automation and CI/CD.
    • Back-end development in Java and/or Python is a plus.
    • Creating and designing RESTful APIs.
    • Understanding of the intersection between back and front-end. Know how to translate FE needs to BE requirements.
