Electrical Engineering Internship: Reprogram Firmware for ST Microcontroller Units

Introduction

Within our Electronic Development Platforms department, we develop and create world-class electronic common platform solutions used across ASML's business lines, ensuring commonality and streamlining development. To achieve this, we collaborate closely with our colleagues from DUV Electronics, EUV Electronics, Application Electronics, and our external development partners, customers, and global suppliers.

Your Assignment

For this internship, you are asked to look into ways of downloading and reprogramming firmware for ST microcontroller units.

Key responsibilities:

  • Investigate the existing methodology used in ASML for FPGA devices;
  • Develop a proof of concept design for ST Microcontroller units. Implement an ASML protocol into a ST microcontroller unit.

The assignment is suitable for bachelor/master apprentice (to gain work experience) or bachelor graduation (thesis). For a minimum duration of 5 months. The starting date is asap, latest in September 2025.

Your Profile

To be the perfect match for this internship you:

  • Have a background in electrical, electronical, or software engineering;
  • Have programming knowledge of C++, C. Knowledge of VHDL/Verilog is a plus;
  • Can work independently;
  • Have critical thinking and good communication skills.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you’re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
