People, Projects & Support

Safety & Security Specialist

This is a temporary position over the period of 6 months with a contract between 16-32 hours per week. There is a possibility of permanent employment after this period.

Everyone who enters IKEA Amsterdam should come out inspired, in a good mood and in one piece. As a safety and security specialist, you make everything possible around safety for customers and colleagues. Always. In any place, under any circumstances. An accident? They call you. A question about the FAFS training? You have the answer.

What you'll be doing day to day

Say: Children keep bumping their heads in a certain corner of the ball pit. You get the reports and know: if there are more, something has to be done. You have a colleague take a look or go yourself. You advise on adjustments in the space to the market manager or the MT. And make sure we take this risk into account in future construction. Prevention, in other words. This is just a small and innocent example from your versatile range of tasks. After all, you have a big responsibility. All safety- and security-related matters of your location fall under your responsibility. You organize your own day within this function. You monitor the action plans, observe in the departments and take action in case of incidents. Thus, you monitor, maintain and report on all security topics. What you will be doing like this:

  • Advising the business on safety, security, regional and national legislation and helping them make the right choice.
  • Analyze reports, assess risks and advise on improvements.
  • Monitor adherence to IKEA's standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Report, make recommendations and monitor follow-up.
  • Answer questions about safety. After all, you are the safety specialist.
  • Performing risk analysis and taking appropriate action.

Our team within IKEA

Can you imagine? IKEA once started as a small mail order company in Älmhult, a Swedish village in the countryside. And now we can be found in 63 countries with a unique assortment. With pride! Ideally, all 6,000 colleagues in the Netherlands are working all day to exceed all customer expectations. In fact, we go much further than that. It is our goal that our company realizes a positive (sustainable) change in society. That's why we say, "We have a passion for everyday life at home. We want to make a better daily life possible for as many people as possible."

At IKEA, we think it's important that you can be yourself. Did you study (integral) safety management, or did you get into this field in another way? You are welcome at IKEA with either background. You like to raise awareness and help everyone, from store manager to cook, gain enlightening insights about working safely. You keep an overview of all actions and foresee what risks you can prevent. You are accessible to everyone and ask the right questions. And you stick to your guns, even when other people find the rules difficult. In times of crisis, you stay calm and dare to make decisions. What else you need:

  • HBO work and thinking level through experience or education.
  • Demonstrated affinity with safety, security and health and safety legislation through education or experience. And the will to learn the strict IKEA safety procedures as well.
  • The communication skills to be able to listen and convince at any level.
  • You reside in the Netherlands, and have both Dutch and English communication skills.

Good for the earth and good for you

What we do today, we will do a little better tomorrow. Because together we take care of people and the environment. And IKEA takes good care of you in the meantime. Start as a Safety & Security Specialist and receive on the basis of 32 hours per week:

  • A 13th month and 8% vacation pay. These are normally paid in December and May, but you can also choose to receive them monthly.
  • The possibility to work part-time. For this position there is room from 16 to max32 hours per week.
  • The opportunity to develop in an organization with high standards. And to also get the IKEA prevention officer certificate.
  • A collective bonus scheme. This is set annually and amounts to a maximum of 150% of your gross monthly salary.
  • If you work before 7:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m., a bonus applies. On Sundays and public holidays you will receive a bonus for the entire day.
  • Travel costs for public transport will be reimbursed 100%. Do you live within a radius of 5 to 20 km from the IKEA location? Then you can also opt for a leased bicycle.
