Performance Engineer Space Instruments

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Performance Engineer Space Instruments at TNO in Delft! šŸš€

About this position

The Space & Systems Engineering expert group develops, supplies, tests, and calibrates optomechatronic instruments and systems for aerospace, ground-based astronomy, and scientific research. The demands placed on these systems are generally challenging the limits of technology. Creating such instruments therefore calls for a thorough project organization, in which experts in the fields of optics, mechatronics, manufacturing, and testing work together in a multidisciplinary setting to achieve the desired result.

What will be your role?

An important aspect of space instruments is calibration, which translates raw data into physical units of interest. The calibration approach is typically a combination of in-flight calibration and an on-ground calibration campaign. In such an on-ground campaign, very accurate measurements are performed with different well-known sources.

For the data processing of an on-ground calibration campaign, we are looking for a performance engineer, who:

  • Processes the measurement data from the calibration campaign.
  • Writes algorithms to analyze this data to derive calibration key data.
  • Understands the instrument and the OGSE to verify the analyses.
  • Documents the results.
  • Improves methods for future campaigns.

To be successful in this role, you:

  • Have a MSc degree in (applied or experimental) physics or equivalent and up to 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Have experience in Python and Git.
  • Understand optical instruments, and work well in a team.
  • Have a pioneering mentality, and you are comfortable with the uncertainty that comes with scientific and engineering challenges.
  • Will contribute to the development of an excellent knowledge level at TNO (specialism, methods and techniques, product application).

With your excellent communication skills, energy, creativity, and a boundless curiosity, you can convince and inspire colleagues and customers alike.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career.
