A unique maritime adventure

As Marine Superintendent you are part of the Operations Department and ensure a smooth approval process for all (third party) vessels to execute projects as per portfolio. With your expertise you assist the vessel staff, the operations department and project management department in project preparation and solving any findings or issues if they arise. You keep track and maintain compliance with flag, class and industry requirements together with the operations and technical department and are closely involved in project preparation. You identify and schedule preparation activities, such as surveys and desk top reviews and are closely involved in the selection of 3rd party vessels in liaison with the operations and chartering department. Reviewing, approving and maintaining ISM documentation and voyage plans is also part of the job.

Occasional travel can be expected for guiding vessel surveys and preparing vessels for a project, for example an outfitting scope of a bubble curtain vessel.

Operational Marine Assurance Support:

  • Coordinate the Marine Assurance Requirements for all (third party) vessels;
  • Advise concerning marine assurance related matters in liaison with the QA Department;
  • Visit vessels to assist the crew with audits and surveys (e.g. ISM, ISPS, MLC, Suitability, OVID, CMID);
  • Keep up with flag and class regulations, industry and client specifications and implement new and future regulations on board HMC vessels and in the Office;
  • Manage inspections, close and follow–up findings with the Vessel Management Teams (VMT), technical and operational managers and subcontractors;
  • Operate closely with our Project Managers to ensure timely vessel acceptance prior to project start;
  • Survey third party vessels against HMC requirements to verify if fit for purpose;
  • Attending Project Hazids

Tender Input:

  • Provide complete, fit-for-purpose, and reliable tender input for vessel operations in port and en route
  • Validate the feasibility and safe execution of proposed method statements, drawings, and plans related to route planning, anchoring, float-overs and jacket launches in liaison with the Tow Masters and Operations Department
  • Identify alternative execution method opportunities

Contract Execution:

  • Manage and control the operational execution of contracts related to a.o. marine assurance and (nautical) support
  • Instruct vessel staff, surveyors, and vessel agents related to the assignment

Asset Preparation:

  • Identify, schedule and follow up on asset preparation activities related to marine assurance, 3rd party vessel preparation & outfitting, vessel inspections and (nautical) support
  • Review and approve proposed project installation & transportation procedures, manuals, drawings, planning and plans for feasibility and safe execution related to marine operations, route planning, anchor plans and (environmental) reporting

Document Control:

  • Maintain HMC Fleet documents related to ISM, ISPS, MLC and Operations and set up new documents as required for future legislation and client requirements in liaison with the document controllers
  • Maintain a tracking register of survey findings for HMC Fleet and 3rd party vessels (e.g. Trace, OVID, CMID)
  • Propose updates to marine standards and criteria for assets
  • Capture asset-related marine lessons learned and best practices for company-wide availability
  • Keep HMC Fleet country required, e.g. USA Non Tank Vessel Plans, Vessel General Permits, documents up to date
  • Assist the CSO in keeping Ship Security Plans up to date and set up project security plans

Interface Management:

  • Manage local interface for all marine matters with relevant parties, including vessel staff, surveyors, and vessel agents
  • Participate in KVNR (or other applicable organisations) meetings, seminars to stay informed about a.o. IMO, Flag regulations
  • Liaise with the QA department concerning audits and new regulations

  • A Bachelor or Master degree in Nautical, Engineering (Mechanical, Maritime, Civil) or equivalent
  • Preferably 3 - 5 years of (onshore or offshore) experience in Mechanical, Nautical, or Civil Engineering
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English both written and spoken
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
