Internship: Wavefront sensor review and simulation

Over Demcon

Demcon focal specializes in the design, engineering and assembly of custom optomechatronic systems. Demcon focal serves a variety of high-tech markets, such as the semiconductor industry, bio/medical technology, industrial production and aerospace. Demcon focal consists of a team of about 25 people, and are situated in Enschede (Netherlands), Delft (Netherlands) and Münster (Germany). Demcon focal features a multidisciplinary approach, involving optical, vision, data, electronic, software, mechanical and system engineering.

Activities include high-level concept and feasibility engineering, detailed engineering, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, integration and test activities

Wat ga je doen?

During this internship, you will do research and development on novel wavefront sensing techniques. These techniques can be used in the next generation astronomical research telescopes. You will:

• Literature review of state-of-the-art wavefront sensing techniques
• Compare and report on the different wavefront sensors comparing them on different aspects that are interesting for Demcon focal (precision, range, framerate, cost, size, etc.) in an engineering trade-off scheme
• Determine the best suitable candidate
• Simulate the performance
• Report on the outcomes

Wat breng je mee?

• Looking for a master’s internship
• Studying Applied Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems and Control engineering, or another relevant study
• An interest in Optics and simulation
• Experience in numerical simulations using Python
