Director Accounting EMEA

Are you an experienced and strategic leader with a passion for optimizing financial processes? We are looking for a driven Director Accounting in the EMEA region. In this key role, you will be responsible for the operational delivery of multiple functions, including payroll, tax and compliance, credit management, and other financial expertise. You will have the opportunity to lead both regional and global improvement projects, with the aim of ensuring the efficient, effective, and compliant delivery of shared financial services across multiple EMEA countries. The Director Accounting EMEA will be responsible for managing a high-performing team, driving operational excellence, and contributing to the continuous improvement of financial processes within the Financial Shared Service Center (FSSC). A core element of this role will be effective stakeholder management and the ability to influence senior stakeholders both within the finance function and across the business, including close collaboration with the transformation office of enabling functions.

What will you be doing?

  • Influence the vision, ambition and strategy of Finance (as part of extended leadership team) and translate that into a strategy and implementation roadmap, including process and technological advancements, for EMEA Financial Shared Service Center.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a diverse team across payroll, tax and compliance, credit management, and subject matter experts for global and regional improvement projects.
  • Foster a high-performance culture and ensure team members are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Drive the implementation of best practices and embed continuous improvement mindset and way of working to optimize financial processes across payroll, tax, and compliance, credit management, ensuring the delivery of efficient, accurate, and timely services.
  • Responsible to drive and lead continuous improvement initiatives based on performance metrics, stakeholder feedback, and market trends.
  • Manage the budget for the EMEA Financial Shared Service Center, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation. Identify improvement areas for cost effectiveness within Group Finance & Accounting.
  • Be an active member of the global Group Finance & Accounting Leadership team and role model the Vanderlande Values and Leadership competences.
  • Oversee payroll operations for multiple EMEA countries, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, labor laws, and corporate policies.
  • Oversee tax and compliance services to ensure full adherence to statutory requirements across the EMEA region.
  • Drive the implementation of credit management practices, improving the cash flow and reducing outstanding receivables.
  • Lead and responsible for process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders within Finance, HR, Legal, IT, and other business functions in order to influence senior stakeholders to drive the adoption of new processes, technology, and service delivery models in the shared services function.
  • Play a key role in the identification and execution of regional and global transformation projects, leveraging your expertise to align shared services with wider corporate strategies and business objectives.
  • Ensure the team and Vanderlande consistently complies with local, regional, and global regulations, minimizing risk for the organization. Additionally, ensure compliance of the team to the internal control framework.
  • Oversee internal and external audits of the legal entities in scope of the EMEA Financial Shared Service Center and ensure timely and accurate responses to audit findings.
  • Responsible for timely filing of the financial statements (and other relevant filings) of the legal entities in scope of EMEA Financial Shared Service Center.

Skills and Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial shared services, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple financial functions (payroll, tax, compliance, credit management) in an EMEA or multinational context.
  • Proven experience managing diverse teams, driving process improvements, and delivering shared services to complex, global organizations.
  • Strong background in stakeholder management and influencing senior leaders across finance and other business functions.
  • Strong knowledge of EMEA payroll, tax, compliance, and credit management processes and regulations across multiple countries.
  • Experience with ERP systems, financial automation tools, and shared service management platforms.
  • Knowledge of financial process design, optimization techniques, and best practices in shared services.
  • Ability to lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives within own scope and across Finance
  • Ability to lead and inspire direct reports and team across different geographies to achieve the set ambitions and timely deliver on the implementation roadmap initiatives.

Education and Certifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

This position offers a competitive salary range of €7,300.00 to €9,800.00 gross per month (excluding 8% holiday allowance). Through exceeding performance expectations, you even have the possibility to grow outside this scale.
