Physics | Optics Internship: Level Sensor Measurement

At ASML, our lithography machines are at the forefront of semiconductor manufacturing, continuously evolving to meet the demands of our customers' product roadmaps. These advanced machines utilize DUV (Deep Ultraviolet) and EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) light to accurately print intricate chip designs onto photoresist layers. A critical aspect of this process is the precise positioning of the wafer at the correct height, which relies on the effective operation of our Level Sensor (LS). With the introduction of new customer applications, we are encountering thicker layers than historically observed, presenting unique challenges for the LS. To address these challenges, our Research and Development & Engineering departments are collaborating to explore innovative concepts aimed at enhancing LS performance for these advanced products.

Your Assignment

As an intern, you will focus on the Level Sensor (LS), a light-based measurement device. Your assignment will involve studying a redesigned LS that provides enhanced data and exploring various algorithms to optimize the measurement accuracy of the current LS. Key components of your work will include simulation and modeling, as well as addressing potential optical artifacts that may arise with increased layer thickness. You will be an integral member of our project team, taking ownership of your own topic and contributing to meaningful advancements in our technology.

This is a Master apprentice internship for 6 to 9 months, minimum 4 days per week (3-4 days onsite). The start date of this internship is as soon as possible.

Your Profile

To be a fit for this assignment, you:

  • Are busy with your master's in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics;

  • Have experience with Matlab (and Python);

  • Have a proactive mentality;

  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
