Senior Platform Engineer Azure/DataBricks

Are you an experienced public cloud professional? Are you skilled in programming with Python and Bash/Powershell? Do you also have extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform and Terragrunt? And have you taken serious steps in building data platforms? Then we are looking for you! NN is on a journey to become a data-driven organization. As a data platform engineer, you will assist NN with your combined skills in data engineering and DevOps. You play a crucial role in the development and automation process of our new data platform, utilizing the latest technologies and tooling. Together with your fellow engineers, you build new functionalities (capabilities) every day to effectively serve our customers (i.e. the teams building data pipelines, data products, and/or models).

What you are going to do

Together with your colleagues, you maintain and expand the platform. You will mainly focus on the infrastructure and automating and improving the deployment process. You have room for creativity and responsibility, as we believe in "You build it, you own it, you maintain it". Azure is your best friend in this. Additionally, users such as data modelers and data scientists frequently come up with interesting issues. By developing, introducing, and automating new components, you provide a solution. You also look at how colleagues can extract data from the platform as simply as possible, making their work a lot easier.

The Life & Pensions Data Platform (LPDAP) requires continuous improvement and expansion. For this, we utilize the latest Microsoft technology, such as Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks. You will also work extensively with Azure DevOps and Git. Your programming tasks will mainly involve Python, Terraform, and Bash.

You will play a key role in further establishing, improving, securing, and automating the entire CI/CD process. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to coach team members in the areas of DevOps engineering, CI/CD, SDLC, and more. Collaborating with fellow data engineers to achieve new data access points is also part of your responsibilities.

Meanwhile, you stay updated on all developments within the infrastructure and other areas of your field.

Your expertise encompasses a wide range of skills and experiences, including:

• Extensive experience with the public cloud, particularly Azure. Possession of Azure certifications such as AZ104 or AZ400 is highly valued
• Proficiency in programming with Python and Bash/Powershell
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, especially with Terraform and Terragrunt
• Active involvement in setting up data platforms from the ground up
• Deep interest in quickly mastering new technologies
• Prioritizing the maintainability and stability of data platforms
• A mindset that prioritizes automation
• Experience in networking, security, and identity & access management
• Knowledge of containers, such as Docker, and possibly Kubernetes
• Familiarity with data engineering tools and best practices
• Preference for experience with Azure Databricks, PySpark, and Azure Data Factory
• Willingness to share knowledge and experience with colleagues
• Minimum B1 level of English proficiency, with fluent Dutch seen as a plus

You will be part of a team with four engineers, each with their own specialty. Additionally, you will work closely with the Product Owner and data architect. We are always striving to improve ourselves and bring out the best in each other. To achieve this, we truly communicate with each other to get to know one another and understand how to bring out the best in each other. We go through the workweek using Scrum, with daily stand-ups, bi-weekly reviews, and retrospectives. Our collaboration doesn't stop there.
