About this position

Within TNO, you will be working in the most enterprising unit of them all: Industry. Out of various sites throughout the Netherlands, the 600 members of the Industry unit work on innovations to stimulate the Dutch industry and ensure it remains leading-edge while at the same time contribute to the wellbeing and welfare in and beyond the Netherlands. You will work predominantly at our Delft site on the field of quantum technology but will also come in contact with other expertise areas and groups. As such, youā€™ll soon become intimately acquainted with the wide range of characters and areas of expertise featured in our unit at TNO.

What will be your role?

You will be working in the Quantum Technology department of TNO, participating in projects either directly for clients or in collaboration with other partners. You play a crucial role in all project phases, from proposal preparation and customer negotiations to team execution and successful delivery, including project definition and development.

As a project manager, you transform the ideas of colleagues and partners into feasible solutions, actively contributing to the maturation of our technology. You will work in multidisciplinary teams with a strong focus on creating state-of-the-art hardware and establishing innovative production processes. This is a job with impact, where you contribute to the development of a key enabling technology in a rapidly growing ecosystem!

You will manage multiple projects concurrently, focusing on the development of new project proposals, particularly in the nanofabrication of diamond-based quantum devices. Your responsibilities include overseeing the financial stability and forecasting of these projects, actively managing risks, monitoring technical progress, and supporting your project teams in meeting planned milestones and deliverables. In collaboration with technical leads, you will translate the high-level needs and ambitions of both the project and the client into concrete activities and a detailed project plan. You are programmatically responsible for ensuring the project is executed within budget, meets quality standards, and is completed on time.

What we expect from you

To be successful in this role you should recognize yourself in the following:

  • Degree in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering.
  • 5 years experience in project management in developing and leading large R&D projects with hardware manufacturing. And tangible experience with project management practices (costing overview, EAC, ETC, risk management, contingency management, resource planning, milestone planning and preparation, procurement overview).
  • Experience in the field of quantum technology or nanofabrication is not a requirement but is a plus.
  • IPMA certification or equivalent is not mandatory but a plus.
  • Strong stakeholder management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent people management skills with clear experience in managing multi-disciplinary and diverse teams.
  • Excellent people management skills and a strong ability to remain resilient under pressure.

In addition to the above-mentioned technical proficiency, this role requests the following skills: organized way of working (i.e., using standard tools and databases), result-driven, flexible in your way of thinking in a complex working environment, good communicator, and able to work productively in a team. Good people management skills and high level of resilience to stress.
