Senior Ultrasound and Acoustics Scientist

Are you an experienced scientist in the fields of acoustics and ultrasound research, and would you like to apply your academic knowledge to practical, societal applications? Make your mark and become a Senior Scientist in Ultrasound and Acoustics.

What will be your role?

Introduction

At TNO, you will work within the Acoustics and Underwater Warfare division, where all our acoustic expertise converges. Our Acoustic Sensor and Sonar Systems department focuses on a variety of subjects, from sonar applications and noise control to ultrasonic systems. We measure sound, model sound to predict how it propagates through solids, water, and air, and develop advanced measurement concepts and data processing methods to extract useful information from measurements.

Why this role is special:

At TNO, you have the opportunity to directly apply your academic expertise in projects that have a significant impact on society. Imagine: your research not only helps protect our naval ships against underwater threats like torpedoes and drones but also contributes to medical applications and industrial safety. You will work with about 100 colleagues in an environment that combines world-class research with a warm, collegial atmosphere where your professional development is a priority.

What will you do?

As a Senior Ultrasound and Acoustics Scientist, you will work on multiple applied research and development projects. You will use your knowledge and experience to develop solutions that meet the needs of our clients across various domains. You will be involved in:

  • Designing, modeling, and experimentally validating new ultrasonic measurement equipment.
  • Developing innovative acoustic measurement algorithms and associated signal processing.
  • Actively contributing to existing R&D projects and developing new concepts.
  • Encouraging collaboration within and outside TNO.
  • Guiding and coaching junior scientists, helping them reach their full potential.

What we expect from you

  • A completed master's or PhD in a relevant field such as physics, electrical engineering, acoustics, or a similar study.
  • Extensive experience in R&D projects in the fields of ultrasound and acoustic research.
  • Proficiency in designing, modeling, and validating measurement equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of acoustic measurement algorithms and signal processing.
  • Excellent communication skills and a talent for collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5.500,- and € 7.300,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
