As Philips grows into becoming the frontrunner and trusted ‘Go-To’ company for Clinical solutions and services across the continuum of care and health, its Enterprise IT architecture will be increasingly interwoven with its product architecture. Enabling this would need the Enterprise IT architecture to be extremely modular, and constantly evolving, incorporating capability-based APIs as well as a microservices-based architecture based on cloud deployment practices.
The Philips Enterprise IT architecture is predominantly based on off-the-shelf software. This is based on significant investments that need to be preserved. In such a circumstance a platform way of thinking needs to promote a Philips (Enterprise IT) API way of working with a set of orchestration capabilities that decouples us from vendor API and vendor-specific orchestration only. A platform way of thinking combined with an optimal decomposition and a microservices architecture should also enable a better trade-off between a ‘build vs buy’ compared to a ‘buy only’ approach for functional capabilities offered.
