Balancing technical leadership with hands-on implementation for critical or high-impact company initiatives, while ensuring that the product teams are accountable and aligned with long-term architectural goals. You will need to orchestrate cross-cutting engineering problems and deep technical problems, all while maintaining a focus on delivering scalable, high-quality solutions efficiently.

What you'll do as Staff Engineer

You’ll report to the Head of Tech Enabling in a multidisciplinary team of experts in either the Core Capabilities or Journeys domain. You will take on a pivotal technical role within a loosely assigned product area, working in close collaboration with Lead Engineers, Engineering Leaders, and Enterprise Architects. Your role is crucial in leading initiatives to tackle complex problems, introduce new technologies, and drive innovation to keep our architecture lean.

On the job coaching of Lead Engineers allows you to multiply your knowledge and skills, while fostering a culture of technical growth and excellence in the teams.

A significant part of your role revolves around developing solution designs for cross-product systems, collaborating closely with Lead Engineers while ensuring alignment with our enterprise architecture.

Your expertise will be vital in key cross-product initiatives, where you’ll not only advise but contribute directly to the code base when needed. You’ll be the go-to person for identifying and analyzing bottlenecks and recommending solutions. Collaboration and knowledge sharing will be integral, as you will work closely with fellow Staff Engineers and the technical platform on domain and enterprise-wide topics, contributing to bol’s overall technical direction. You will work on developing tooling to analyze the technical and architectural health of our landscape.

Key responsibilities:

• Tackle complex technical issues that require a deep understanding of systems and architecture, driving solutions that may impact multiple teams or products
• Lead or participate in high-impact initiatives that drive significant improvements or innovations within the organization, influencing technical direction at a domain level
• Provide visionary leadership in technology and engineering practices, guiding teams in adopting innovative solutions and technologies that align with business objectives.
• Support Engineering Leadership in guarding the technical and architectural health of domain-wide solutions
• Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating the potential impact on organizational problems
• Drive the adoption of industry best practices to enhance engineering standards
• Contribute to key cross-product initiatives in all phases of the software development cycle, collaborate with Lead engineers on feasibility studies in discovery phases. Buy or build?

What you’ll bring to the team

• 8-10+ years of experience in software development, where you've thrived in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
• Strong architectural and solution design skills, allowing you to build scalable and innovative systems.
• A pragmatic, results-driven leadership style, focusing on success while keeping things grounded and practical.
