As our Cloud FinOps Engineer, you’ll ensure every euro we spend generates customer impact. Through sophisticated tooling and insights, you’ll help teams optimize resources while maintaining the platform agility we require to continue improving and growing.

The biggest challenge

Transform cloud cost management from a perceived (albeit necessary) evil into a clear strategic advantage. Our product teams have unprecedented freedom to innovate in the cloud, but this autonomy needs to be balanced with accountability. Create frameworks and tools that make cost optimization feel organic rather than coerced and foster a culture where financial efficiency fuels innovation. Improving our cloud economics should be as instinctive for our teams as their drive to improve performance.

What you'll do as Cloud FinOps Engineer

You’ll join an enthusiastic team of five cloud engineers, two fellow FinOps engineers, a product manager, and an engineering manager. Many of your teammates have years of Platform Engineering and DevOps experience and can provide you with a deep well of knowledge. Your playground is built on powerful technologies to help you turn cloud billing data into actionable insights. Using BigQuery to combine Cloud Billing data with cross-charging mechanisms and team-based enrichment initiatives, you’ll develop Looker Studio dashboards and Python-based alerting systems to keep product teams informed and in control.

You’ll oversee and manage BigQuery slot reservations and streamline budget distribution processes, ensuring efficient resource allocation across the organization. Looking slightly further ahead, you’ll assist in exploring how to integrate our tooling into bol’s central developers portal (based on Backstage with MUI and TypeScript), making cloud cost insights an integral part of our development workflow.

Key responsibilities include:

• Analyze cloud usage patterns and identify cost optimization opportunities
• Develop intuitive dashboards and alerting systems that empower teams to self-manage their cloud budgets
• Create and implement financial strategies, including unit economics and predictive cost forecasting

• Champion FinOps best practices across the organization, making cost optimization part of our DNA
• Optimize cloud purchasing strategies, including Committed Use Discounts, to maximize ROI
• Design and implement automated solutions that scale with our growing cloud footprint

At bol’s Utrecht headquarters, where you’ll help our Cloud Platform team build the financial foundation for our retail tech platform. With 13.5 million customers shopping from a selection of 38 million articles, our cloud infrastructure needs to be as efficient as it is scalable.
