Your Role

As a Robot Controls Project Engineer, you will design and program Robot controls for our Robotic modules at our Veghel office, adhering to the highest quality standards on a project basis. Following this, you will be responsible for the detailed design, programming, and testing of the Robot software. Upon completion of the engineering phase, you will travel to customer sites worldwide to commission these modules. During this phase, you will conduct functional testing of the Robot hardware and software, integrate your Robot and or PLC software into the overall control system, and assist in customer acceptance testing. Throughout the project, you will diligently monitor the budget and schedule, taking appropriate actions as necessary.

Your core tasks:

  • Develop, commission, test, and implement ABB robotic programs for standard and customized robot applications and PLC program for the conveyors within the robot cell.
  • Collaborate with Technology and Engineering teams to design and optimize robotic work cells.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to robotic systems, including software, hardware, and integration problems.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and updates to ensure optimal performance of robotic systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and internal staff on the operation and maintenance of ABB robots.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols in all robotic operations.
  • Accurately document all programming and maintenance activities.

Who we are looking for?

  • Successfully completed relevant education (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in the field of Robotics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Mechanics, Electronics, Controls (OT & IT) or Mechatronics
  • Working experience in programming and troubleshooting ABB robotic systems (IRC5 & Omnicore, RobotStudio, etc.).
  • Familiarity with other robot systems and/or Siemens PLCs (TIA Portal), HMIs, and sensors is an advantage.
  • Proactive, pragmatic and hands-on attitude
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good (verbally and in writing) command of the English language, and Dutch is an advantage.
  • Willing to work regularly for extended periods in other countries (up to 50% of your time).

The Module Deployment Group Workcells & Robotics department is at the forefront of deploying Workcells and Robotic modules globally. This multidisciplinary team (mechanical, electromechanical, and controls) embraces agile methodologies, supports Sales, participates in executing (pilot) projects, defines operational procedures for new modules, and provides essential tooling and training across the organization. Additionally, the department ensures a feedback loop to Technology for continuous module improvement.

Collaborating under the guidance of a Project Leader and working closely with the Integration Manager, Mechanical Engineers, and Electrical Engineers, the Robot Controls Project Engineer is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team.
