At IKEA we have the vision to create a better everyday life at home for the many people. We strive to be affordable, but in a truly people and planet positive way. Our digital capabilities play a crucial role in achieving this goal. We believe that you will thrive when you meet great people that are on the same mission at IKEA. People that are not only talented and skilled, but also humble, supportive and committed to leading home-furnishing retail into the future. Our team enables analytical insights into many of our unit operations and fulfilment capabilities and it is already used by thousands of co-workers across the globe today.
OUR TEAM WITHIN IKEA
We are a diverse team with 9 different nationalities present in our data and product teams and majority of us work from Amsterdam. On the Data & Analytics side we have data engineering and data analyst / BI development capabilities for building data solutions, structured datasets and reporting insights on top of various data sources specific to the Ikea’s Customer Fulfilment capabilities. The variety of data available and the possibilities to utilize it are growing. Making good use of the data, creating reliable metrics and meaningful insights can bring improvements to the efficiency and cost consciousness of our operations that affect not only our different business processes and our co-workers but also in the end our many customers around the world.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
As a Data Engineer, you will play an important role in the design, development, and operations of our data products, data transformation pipelines, related GCP infrastructure and data modelling activities and you can also provide advisory for other subdomains and product teams on how they could be building their own data products for others to consume. Together with our team, product owner and possible other stakeholders, you refine product requirements and translate them to technical solutions. Herein, you adopt a value-first technology-second mindset, to ensure the team contributes to the company goals. You take responsibility for the technical refinement and delivery of sprint stories and epics, in collaboration with other engineers, the Product Owner, and Specialists. From data engineering point of view the important aspects are with building processes to bring data available, aggregated, and usable from various sources. Your work will consist of implementing well-structured dimensionally modelled data marts, orchestration mechanisms and the metrics in co-operation with our product owners and specialists, data analysts and other stakeholders. Our cloud platform of choice is GCP, and we publish our data marts through BigQuery. Going forward in the role after gaining some more context understanding, your work could steer more towards cloud technology implementations or towards a more business-oriented data engineering meets business analyst kind of a role interacting with other product teams and to help them and us to also use their data.
