Power Management Engineer in the Power Systems Architecture Section, Power Systems EMC and Space Environment Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC).
The Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research (R&D) in the field of power management and distribution for space applications, both primary or secondary, platform or payload. In particular, it covers power system design, power and energy budget assessment, power conditioning and distribution design and technology, analogue electronics for power systems, control of power systems, digital control of power systems, sensing techniques and high-voltage technology and design. Within this domain of competence, the Section is responsible for:

Hands-on hardware experience
Project support experience in a relevant domain
Spacecraft systems knowledge
Hands-on laboratory experience
Experience in the preparation of procurement activities for technology development and innovation, such as statements of work and proposal evaluation
Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews

Experience in the design of power systems at early-phase stages of space missions and the use of relevant tools
Experience in power system analysis, including power and energy budget assessment Experience in DC/DC converter design and verification Experience of power converter control Experience of digital control and FPGA programming Experience in the use of GaN and SiC switches for power conversion Experience in the use of electrical simulation tools and the modelling of power conversion circuits and systems Knowledge of secondary power system analysis and verification Knowledge of distribution system analysis and verification Knowledge of power processing units (PPU) for propulsion systems Knowledge of power systems for SmallSats A PhD in a relevant domain

Important Information and Disclaimer
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
Applicants must be eligible to access technology and hardware which is subject to European and US export control regulations & security clearance by their national security administrations.
During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally, successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment, which will be conducted by an external background screening service, in compliance with the European Space Agency's security procedures.
