IQ-BRAIN Marie Curie PhD Student - Quantitative MRI Reconstruction

You will develop methods to make robust quantitative MRI in clinically acceptable acquisition times. There are several promising quantitative MRI techniques, but clinical adoption is hindered by long scan times. To address this, you will develop a qMRI reconstruction framework for novel, highly accelerated acquisitions. In this framework, subject motion should be compensated to increase the number of successful scans and remaining uncertainty should be estimated to support clinical reasoning and hence aid clinical acceptance.

Your tasks will include:
  • Sequence setting optimization.
  • Designing and implementing a Deep Learning architecture for qMRI reconstruction.
  • Writing scientific papers.
  • Presenting at scientific conferences.

This vacancy is part of the Marie Curie project IQ-BRAIN. For this project, we foresee secondments to research and commercial partners in the consortium.

Work Environment

The research will be conducted at the MR physics group and the Biomedical Imaging Group Rotterdam (BIGR), which are part of the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam. The department is one of the largest medical imaging departments in Europe, featuring 10 clinical MRI scanners at various field strengths.

You will collaborate with a team of experienced researchers with backgrounds in image analysis, machine learning, radiology, pathology, surgery, and oncology. This project involves collaboration with IQ-BRAIN partners and GE Healthcare.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Your profile aligns with the general requirements and eligibility criteria of the IQ-BRAIN project.
  • You should be an independent and highly motivated researcher with an MSc or MEng degree in a technical domain (e.g., Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Informatics, Engineering). If you have not yet obtained your diploma but expect to do so in the near future, you can already apply.
  • Experience with MR imaging, image processing, and/or machine learning is highly valued.
  • You should be able to communicate and work with researchers from various fields. Excellent proficiency in English is required.
Before you apply, please check our conditions for employment.

Terms of Employment

  • The PhD position is for 4 years; 3 years funded through the Marie Curie IQ-BRAIN project, with additional funding secured for the fourth year.
  • The gross monthly salary starts at € 3.017,- in the 1st year and increases to € 3.824,- in the 4th year (scale OIO).
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • An International Office to assist in your arrival and stay.
  • Pension insurance with ABP, with approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution covered by us.
  • Special benefits like an in-company physiotherapist and bicycle repairer, as well as a gym for fitness post-work.
