In the dynamic field of Python software engineering, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact. Alliander is seeking a talented Python Software Engineer to join the Power Flow Analysis Team within the Agile Release Train System Operations. This is a position with a working week of 32 to 40 hours. You will make the energy grid innovative at Alliander.

The energy transition needs you as Python Software Engineer

As a Medior Python Software Engineer, you will be at the forefront of the energy transition, contributing to innovative developments in the electricity grid. Your role will primarily focus on development and operational responsibilities within the Power Flow Analysis Team (PFAT). This team is responsible for creating capabilities and products to explore, validate, store, and present measured and estimated grid state data from substations and the distribution grid.

To achieve this, data scientists and developers work closely together within the team, where sharing knowledge and practical advice is crucial. Additionally, we cooperate intensively with other teams in the System Operations department and across the Alliander organization to bring our products into practice. Our mission is to ensure reliable measurement data that reveals unused capacity in the electrical grid and the potential to maximize grid utilization.

We are creating the energy grid of the future, for everyone, with everyone. And as a Python Software Engineer, you can play your part in this. Your role will involve:

  • Development of the services to explore, validate, store and present measured, estimated grid state data of sub stations and the distribution grid
  • Collaborating with data scientists to develop efficient and maintainable services.
  • Converting an offline risk assessment on grid capacity into an automated online service.
  • Collaborating with the team to continuously improve the performance and functionality of the services.

The Power Flow Analysis Team (PFAT) is a collaborative group of data scientists and developers dedicated to advancing the energy transition by developing tools to analyze, validate, and present grid state data, enabling Alliander to identify unused grid capacity and enhance grid utilization for a more reliable and efficient electricity distribution system.

We are looking in particular for a candidate with:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with software engineering in Python
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining CI/CD software pipelines (tekton/github actions), releases and deployments.
  • Handson experience with structured and non-structured databases, knowledge on AWS services such as DocumentDB and S3 is a big plus.
  • Experience with cloud engineering (AWS).
  • Experience and affinity with developing data(science) applications and data modeling.
  • Pro-active problem solver with analytical skills.
  • Team player with good communication skills and able to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Attractive salary and benefits package

Based on a 40-hour working week, you will receive:

  • a gross monthly salary of between €4,274 - €6.106 gross per month (scale 9)
  • annually an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full time) or 12.8% (part time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 5.2% ADV (shorter working hours) and 8% holiday allowance. If you do not work full time, you are not entitled to ADV. You can have this budget paid out as extra salary or use it to purchase extra days off, for example. You choose the option that is right for you.
  • 25 days’ holiday (statutory + non-statutory). You can use your IKB to top this up to (full time) (part time).
  • an end-of-year bonus of 6% of your annual salary in December.
  • study and training allowances. In most cases Alliander reimburses the cost of the entire course.
  • the possibility of combining working in the office with working from home, if your position allows.
