About Us:

The Workboats Division at Damen Shipyards is one of our four ship-newbuild domains, alongside Offshore & Specialized Vessels, Yachting, and Naval. We focus on designing, engineering, building, and commissioning Workboats like High-Speed Craft, Fast Ferries, Stationary Dredgers, and Tugs. Technology development within the Shipbuilding industry is rapidly increasing, and Damen Workboats aims to lead these advancements by continuously seeking innovative systems.

The Technology Management department is pivotal in our mission by overseeing technology development and standardization of the ship's systems portfolio using modular and scalable solutions. We are looking for a System Owner for the "Interior & Experience" system platform team within this department.

A system platform team is a multi-disciplinary group responsible for developing, standardizing, and maintaining the entire (standard) system throughout its lifecycle, focusing on technical content, supply chain, production, quality control, knowledge management, and documentation for service support. The system owner leads this team, ensuring the interior design and experience across the Workboats product portfolio.

The Role:

The System Owner will set a clear vision for the system platform(s), taking into account strategic themes like sustainability, digitalization, and operational excellence. This includes aligning with business requirements, future Damen Workboats portfolios, supplier cooperation, technology, and market opportunities. Ensuring timely systems availability is critical for successful integration into our ships while supporting asset management and customer success through the feedback provided.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Account for the system platform and serve as the contact point for system development, implementation, and support across the organization.
  • Define a vision and strategy for technology, considering business objectives and market opportunities.
  • Manage the Technology Development roadmap and align it with the ship type development agenda.
  • Standardize modular and scalable system families, covering the full Damen Workboats portfolio needs.
  • Approve supplier/partner strategies in close cooperation with Damen Category Management and Product groups.
  • Lead the multi-disciplinary system platform team, setting clear goals and priorities for systems development and support.
  • Organize collaboration with internal and external key partners and build the organization around system platforms throughout their lifecycle.
  • Ensure technology adheres to systems engineering principles and Verification and Validation models.
  • Embed knowledge within the organization and set up necessary training and instructions.

Skills & Experience:

As a person, you are:

  • Enthusiastic, open, communicative, and a real team player.
  • Proactive, result-oriented, with initiative to take ownership.
  • A strong leader with the ability to coach, guide, and influence others.
  • People-oriented, energetic, and possess management skills.
  • Decisive yet flexible in your approach, working methodically.
  • Able to manage expectations and see the bigger picture.
  • Willing to travel (based in The Netherlands).

You have:

  • An academic level with a bachelor’s or master's degree in a technical field such as Industrial Design, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Automation, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstratable knowledge in this specific technical domain within a relevant industry.
  • The ability to translate high-level market and business requirements into technology and system development needs.
  • Project management qualities, maintaining a clear overview and prioritizing effectively.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering principles and marine installations integration, including third-party cooperation.
  • Knowledge of (marine) industry standards and regulations.
  • A high-quality consciousness and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus.

What We Offer:

  • Personal guidance, freedom, varied work, and a work environment where your opinion counts.
  • A work-from-home policy.
  • An excellent benefits package tailored to your experience and education level.
  • An international work environment.
  • Open, informal, no-nonsense culture with short communication lines.

We look forward to meeting you!
