Industrial Placement: Naval Ships Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Scotstoun (Glasgow)

We design and build a full range of naval ships from offshore patrol vessels to giant aircraft carriers, providing our customers with the capability to fulfil extensive naval operations worldwide. What You Will Be Doing

The purpose of Manufacturing Engineering is to develop, implement, and govern capable methods of manufacture, assembly, disassembly, and repair (including method of verification) which can meet customer and business requirements for Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring compliance to design intent. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will contribute and be accountable for delivering Manufacturing Engineering outputs into Operations that ensure design intent can be met. The role holder will be competent and capable in the tasks they perform.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Influence the design to ensure it aligns with current and evolving manufacturing capability.
• Develop the manufacturing capability and technology (including IT) to ensure the design requirement is met.
• Translate the Engineering Design intent (Drawings, standards, etc.) into Manufacturing Engineering data for Operations.
• Ensure that Manufacturing Engineering output meets all the relevant Safety and Quality requirements.
• Generate and progress Manufacturing Engineering output in line with Project/Programme requirements.
• Define and execute emergent work affecting manufacture, fabrication, or construction.
• Analyze and present manufacturing data to ensure process improvement or investment decisions are data-driven.

Skills

As a minimum requirement, you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Production Engineering Management, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. To be considered for this role, you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
