As Site, Facilities & Infrastructure, we are responsible for running and maintaining the 156-acre Barrow site and ensuring it is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We utilise a highly skilled, fully flexible team, ensuring legislative compliance and minimum disruption to enable the shipyard to build submarines safely and efficiently. The work we do is key to maintaining our Nuclear Site Licence.
Site Engineering ensures that all activities on-site are conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulations. You will work closely with teams of skilled engineers, providing governance and oversight on a wide range of engineering projects that are vital to the success of our business. From maintaining existing infrastructure to supporting the development of new facilities, your role will be pivotal in ensuring that our site operates seamlessly.
You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, and external contractors, to ensure that all engineering work aligns with safety standards and site requirements. This placement will provide you with hands-on experience in overseeing complex engineering processes, problem-solving in real-time, and driving innovative solutions that enhance our operations.
Barrow shipyard is undergoing significant growth, with new buildings and upgrades to existing facilities, you will be at the forefront of ensuring that our engineering activities not only meet our current needs but also pave the way for future success. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in engineering governance and compliance, all while contributing to the delivery of world-class submarines and weapon systems for our customers.
As a minimum requirement, you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline, such as Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering. To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
