Graduate Submarines Human Factors Engineer

Join our Submarines Team to be a part of designing, building, testing, and commissioning the largest and most advanced submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy. Work alongside our Astute Class and Dreadnought Class Submarines to provide a powerful and secure deterrent for the United Kingdom 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You could be the difference.

Why BAE Systems?

This is a place where you’ll be able to make a real difference. You’ll be part of an inclusive culture that values diversity, rewards integrity and merit, and where you’ll be empowered to fulfil your potential. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and particularly from sections of the community who are currently under represented within our industry, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ individuals.

What you will be doing

Do you want to help our business design, build and maintain submarines and the facilities used to build them to enable submariners to live and work under the ocean for several months at a time? Do you want to help develop real solutions to enable 100+ personnel to live and work in a unique environment? Are you interested in the interplay between people, technology and design and want to make people central to the design of submarines and the facilities used to build them? Then this is the perfect role for you.

As a Human Factors Graduate, you will engage with experienced submariners, operators and engineers to understand the challenges they face when designing and building submarines that are optimized for use by the very people who live and work in them. You will be working with a variety of specialist teams across our submarine programmes, applying unique problem-solving skills in a pragmatic way, to overcome diverse and complex problems. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in many stages of the submarine lifecycle, from concept design through to activities with the in-service fleet, as well as supporting the design of site facilities and the equipment used to build and launch submarines.

You will be part of a very friendly and supportive team of Human Factors specialists who will work with you to develop the theoretical and practical skills needed to become a Chartered Ergonomist.
