Industrial Placement Naval Ships Network Engineer

Location: New Malden (London) / Broad Oak (Hampshire)

Start Date: 23rd June 2025

At BAE Systems, we offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements. On our Undergraduate programme, you will generally be required to attend your site 4 days per week, subject to business needs. The specific hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

We design and build a full range of naval ships, from offshore patrol vessels to giant aircraft carriers, enabling customers to conduct extensive naval operations globally. We are the sole provider of complex warships and their combat management systems to the UK Royal Navy’s surface fleet. Do you have what it takes to join our Naval Ships team?

Why BAE Systems?

This is a place where you can make a real difference. You'll be part of an inclusive culture that values diversity, rewards integrity and merit, and empowers you to fulfill your potential. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and particularly from under-represented sections of the community, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

What You Will Be Doing

Would you like to be a part of one of the most advanced engineering projects globally and a significant defence programme in the UK? Are you good at solving problems with a big-picture approach? Do you enjoy predicting the systemic impact of changes within a complex system? Then systems engineering could be your ideal career path!

In this multi-disciplinary role across ships, aircraft carriers, or patrol vessels, you'll focus on the bigger picture and bridge gaps between disciplines. Throughout the various stages of a product lifecycle, you'll lead systems integration, testing, qualification, and acceptance. Besides the technical aspects, you'll learn to consider other crucial factors like schedules, costs, training, and environmental concerns.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Software, Systems, and Hardware engineers to develop complex real-world systems that must perform flawlessly, given the catastrophic consequences of failure.
  • Support the development and testing of Network software and hardware releases.
  • Support & maintain network technical design.
  • Implement the network aspects of Network architecture and design.
  • Make real contributions to addressing engineering issues on a programme, encompassing requirements evaluation, problem-solving, and engineering deliverable presentation.
  • Produce engineering data information, meeting and briefing notes, reports, presentation preparations, cost, schedule, and risk analysis.
Skills

As a minimum requirement, you’ll need to have obtained or be predicted to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Networks, Computing, or Software. To be considered for this role, you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
