Mid-Level Lawyer - Regulatory Affairs

Summary: Are you a mid-level lawyer experienced in regulatory laws and regulations? We are looking to strengthen our Regulatory Affairs team!

Job Description

Your team: The Regulatory Affairs team within NIBC is part of the Compliance & Regulatory Affairs department which consists of around 18 people, including staff at NIBC’s international offices in Frankfurt, London, and Brussels. We are looking to strengthen the Regulatory Affairs team by recruiting a mid-level lawyer experienced in regulatory laws and regulations. As a bank, NIBC is subject to a large number of regulatory requirements. As a regulatory affairs officer in the Regulatory Affairs team, you work together with the team and colleagues from other departments to ensure that the bank is on top of regulatory change. You will report to the Head of Regulatory Affairs, and you will actively cooperate with the other members of the Regulatory Affairs team, and with colleagues across other departments affected by regulation.

What will you do?

As a regulatory affairs officer, you analyze complex regulatory texts and the impact thereof on NIBC. As part of the team, you will be involved in the following activities:

  • Track relevant regulatory developments with the assistance of regulatory change management tooling;
  • Assess the legal impact of financial regulatory laws, with the emphasis on conduct related laws (gedragstoezicht), and support the colleagues across the bank that assess the operational impact;
  • Assist with implementation of new regulatory changes;
  • Support the running of NIBC’s Regulatory Expert Network in which the regulatory change portfolio of NIBC is discussed;
  • Contribute to reporting on regulatory change to senior management and the Regulatory Change Committee; and
  • Provide ad-hoc legal regulatory advice to management/various departments within the bank on conduct-related regulation.

As the policy management function is also located within Regulatory Affairs, you may also be involved in some policy management activities. You will join a small team which will ensure that you get a chance to work on a broad range of regulatory topics.

What do you bring?

Next to your regulatory knowledge, you have an eye for detail, but you also do not lose sight of the bigger picture of the regulatory framework and regulators’ intention with the rules. You have the ability to simplify complex matters when informing colleagues about regulatory developments. In short, you know what regulatory change means for the bank and you aspire to be a trusted advisor on regulatory topics to your colleagues. You keep cool in stressful times and have a proactive attitude; you involve the right people and know how to proactively follow up on issues.

You recognize yourself in most of the below capabilities:

  • A master degree in law (preferably with a specialization in financial regulatory law);
  • At least 3 years of working experience in a comparable position in the financial industry, a law firm, or within a financial regulatory authority;
  • Good knowledge of Dutch and EU financial laws & regulations;
  • Experience with making impact assessments and ability to translate laws and regulations into practical and understandable advice and/or policies;
  • General knowledge of the banking industry and the products and services offered by NIBC;
  • Analytical mind and attention to detail, however you remain pragmatic;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (in both Dutch and English);
  • The ability to simplify complex matters;
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to build up an (internal) network;
  • Able to understand and find solutions when faced with conflicting opinions and interests;
  • Team player and hands-on mentality with a positive mindset; and
  • High personal ethical standards.
