The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Global ESG Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Rapidly gaining an understanding of 3M’s business divisions and identifying potential related sustainability issues (i.e., drivers of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste, water stewardship, safety).
• During relevant projects, acting as the expert and/or partnering with external experts on core sustainability topics including waste, water, energy, and emissions.
• In relation to 3M’s sustainability commitments, goals, and key performance indicators, identifying key risks to achievement and assisting in road-mapping future actions.
• Assessing and evaluating existing ESG processes and identifying key risks of fraud or error.
• Remaining abreast of 3M’s primary regulators (globally) and their current and proposed expectations for reporting and disclosure.
• Confidently articulating findings and observations in the form of actionable recommendations.
• Building cross-functional relationships to guide, support, and “connect the dots” between business operations and science for circular, climate, and community goals and commitments.
• Continuing to assess material ESG issues as 3M accelerates sustainability efforts, identifying opportunities to partner with external agencies and key stakeholders to build strategic models and a strategic roadmap for overall impact.
• Leveraging knowledge and expertise to cross-share with operational audit teams and participate in audits of 3M’s sustainability reporting and effectiveness of control execution.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental/climate science, sustainability, or public health (completed and verified prior to start).
• Prior experience using ESG reporting frameworks and methodologies including TCFD, IIRC, GRI and SASB, CSRD, and the GHG Protocol in a private, public, government, or military environment.

• Detail-oriented with strong project management, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in conducting a GHG inventory build and understanding of emission factors databases preferred.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), collaboration, and presentation skills.
• Assurance or attestation experience preferred.
• Experience managing project work with tight deadlines and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to engage at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing against project plans.
• Comfortable in both individual contributing roles and cross-functional team management roles.
• Experience with MS Excel, MS Visio, data analytics, and queries.
