Within Damen, the Damen Data Services team is a professional provider of high-quality data driven solutions and services and the enabler for digital transformation. The mission of Damen Data Services is to create business value by means of data for Damen Shipyards Group by innovating the (digital) collaboration between colleagues, yards, ships, customers, and suppliers.

The Damen Data Services team is a new team and is on the journey to define, create and activate a ‘Human Led, Data Powered’ organization.

THE ROLE

As a Data Steward at Damen you ensure the quality, integrity, and governance of data assets within the domain Business Partners (i.e. Customer, Supplier, Manufacturer, Creditor, Debtor, Employee). You work closely with data & analytic teams, business stakeholders, and digital & IT professionals to establish and maintain data standards, quality, policies, and processes. The data steward’s responsibilities include data profiling, quality, data cleansing, metadata management, and promoting a data-driven culture throughout our organization.

Key areas of responsibilities:

  • Ensures data is deemed fit for purpose by developing data quality rules and regularly auditing data
  • Take ownership to identify, report, analyze, and resolve data issues related to uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Initiate improvements and data issue resolution needed to meet agreed service levels (KPIs) on data quality.
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders, especially Data Owners and Data Services team, to define and implement data management strategies, policies, definitions of data, and governance frameworks, especially in the domains of sales, supply chain, operations, finance and HR.
  • Define retention periods and procedures for archiving and monitoring on compliancy.
  • Conducts data profiling and analysis to assess the quality, completeness, and accuracy of data assets.
  • Describe the business objects, data objects and representations with their metadata and how and where that data will be used by process, system application and business function / user role.
  • Implements and monitors data governance processes, including data access controls, data retention policies, and data life cycle management.
  • Develops data governance training programs to increase data literacy and educate stakeholders on data management practices.
  • Identify the risks associated with the Data, re-assess and provide the correct security classification label for each business object.
  • Participates in the development of data policies, including data retention, data privacy, data use, and data regulations.
  • Collaborates with Digital and IT teams to ensure proper data synchronization across systems.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Around 4 years’ experience in master data management, data analytics, data engineering, or a related area
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data analytics, software engineering, information technology, or related field
  • Demonstrated project experience designing and implementing data governance initiatives in a management role.
  • Strong understanding of data management concepts, data governance frameworks, and data quality principles
  • Proficiency in data profiling and data analysis techniques using tools like SQL, Excel, or data profiling software.
  • Familiarity with metadata management and data dictionary tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve data quality issues.
  • Ability to effectively and persuasively communicate technical standards, practices, and initiatives to drive data governance throughout the organization.
  • Familiarity with data-related technologies and tools such as ETL, data warehouses, and data lakes
  • Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Looker
  • Data analysis and manipulation skills through data science languages/tools such as Python, R, JavaScript, and SQL
