How and along which products can I best guide the customer through the store? And how do I ensure that the customer puts something in their shopping cart or yellow bag at a certain moment? As a visual merchandising activity employee at IKEA Amsterdam, these are the questions you focus on. While colleagues work on designing and setting up homes and room settings, you work on a product level. In this way, you also make an indispensable contribution to a better home for everyone. You ensure that the customer finds their way through the store and is triggered to make purchases along the way. How do you do that? By effectively highlighting all the benefits of our versatile products. Does the customer already know that this wardrobe can also be used as a shoe cabinet? Or that you can change the cover of this sofa to wash it or give it a different color? Even if a product is not selling well, you will work with the sales manager to create a plan to bring more (or better) attention to this product. What else will you do:
  • Walk rounds before the store opens so you can restock products and organize back walls, for example.
  • Determine where new products can best be placed and take this into account during the design phase in Revit.
  • Place new products in the department according to IKEA standards.
  • Participate in meetings with your team manager and the entire department about upcoming projects, how everyone is doing, and which issues need to be resolved.
  • Contribute to larger projects and renovations where new season-related products are implemented throughout the store.
Our team within IKEA
Can you imagine it? IKEA once started as a small mail-order company in Älmhult, a Swedish village in the countryside. Today, you can find us in 63 countries with a unique assortment. Working at IKEA means working in a world of ideas. A world described by our own colleagues as a workplace where everyone is welcome and you can be yourself. Where we make a difference together for as many people and the planet as possible. But also a workplace where you determine your own career steps and where there is plenty of room for your practical creativity and ideas. And all this while working in a great team with colleagues who are always there for you and help you when needed. You work for the Communication & Interior Design department. This department is responsible for safeguarding the IKEA concept. You play an important role in this. You are part of a helpful team of about 25 people where everyone is equal. Because that ultimate IKEA experience? You need the employees of visual merchandising, interior design, graphics, furniture assembly, and the handymen all equally for that. Who you are At IKEA, we believe it's important that you can be yourself. And that you fulfill this creative and entrepreneurial role in a way that suits you. You are good at planning and organizing and work meticulously. This helps you keep your department in order. You are also practical and commercially minded. Do sales figures soar after you make adjustments at the product level? That makes you happy. Furthermore, you can explain ideas and visual concepts in words, even to people who do not have a creative role. And if something does not go as planned, if the IKEA standards do not align with reality this time, or if we miss sales opportunities? Then you come up with a suitable solution or alternative. What else you need:
  • You have knowledge of design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or AutoCAD, so you can quickly master Revit as well.
  • You speak and write English.
  • You are motivated to work evenings and weekends.
  • You have a higher professional education (HBO) level of thinking and working. You have achieved this through a creative education, preferably in interior design, or through work experience.
Good for the earth and good for you What we do today, we will do even better tomorrow. Because together we take care of people and the environment. And in the meantime, IKEA takes good care of you too. Start as a visual merchandising activity employee and receive the following based on a 36-hour work week:
  • From the age of 18, you will receive an all-in hourly wage starting at €16.38 per hour, depending on your knowledge and experience. This hourly wage includes a 13th month and 8% holiday pay. These are usually paid out in December and May, but you can also choose to receive them monthly.
  • An extra allowance for working irregular hours. The allowance ranges between 50% and 100% and applies to weekdays and Saturdays if you work before 7:00 AM or after 9:00 PM. On Sundays and public holidays, you receive an allowance throughout the day.
  • A collective bonus scheme. This is determined annually and amounts to a maximum of 150% of your gross monthly salary.
  • Public transport travel costs are reimbursed 100%. If you live within a radius of 5 to 20 km from the IKEA location, you can also opt for a lease bike. Do you still travel by car? Then you will receive a travel allowance of up to €243 per month.
15% staff discount at all IKEA stores in the Netherlands and at the IKEA Museum in Älmhult.

Various schemes that suit your personal situation. Think of transition leave and equal (100% paid) birth leave regardless of your family's composition. You can also swap Christian holidays for non-Christian holidays. And every store has a quiet/prayer room.
