Java Engineering Lead

As Barclays Java Engineering Lead, you will be working on the development of applications within the Markets area of the Investment Bank, specifically related to the trading function and the lifecycle of a trade. You’ll be designing and developing critical components that form the very core of the Equities Electronic Trading business: Smart Order Routing and Algorithmic Trading strategies and be given a unique opportunity to become a member of a global multinational agile team of experienced engineers and learn new technologies and skills.

What will you be doing?

Designing and building a highly scalable application used for trade validation, lifecycle tracking and real-time consumption of trade data by consumers downstream

Mentoring and coaching junior talent within the team

Being a subject matter expert in key technologies, able to instruct other developers in the use of complex technologies

Facilitating agile processes, including backlog and sprint management, knowledge transfer and requirements elicitation

Providing support to for the applications BAU work as needed

Ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework

What we’re looking for:

Advanced Java and development skills, including extensive multi-threaded programming and SQL experience

Experience of building enterprise scale applications

Spring framework, with hands-on experience of Java and J2EE technologies

Degree in Computer Science or related field

Skills that will help you in the role:

Experience in working with GraphQL, Kafka

Experience working in an investment bank preferable

Working knowledge of agile and Scrum, DevOps and exposure to cloud technologies will be an added advantage

Solid social skills with ability to communicate thoughts, designs, and implementations in both written and verbal form
