As Engineering manager, you are an inspirational leader responsible for leading effective engineering processes, throughout the tendering, preparation, and execution phase of projects. You ensure that a project is technically well-prepared and executed. You bring a cost conscious and proactive attitude when translating client and technical requirements into solutions for the project that meet safety & quality standards.

  • You act as an Integrator who makes sure that technical solutions are in alignment with the overall project interest and strategy, including cost and risk, and you ensure that stakeholders are informed and aware of (potential) clashes and budget overruns. In the office or on project sites, you are the hierarchical leader for all engineers in the project. You motivate and develop your engineering colleagues to deliver their best work.
  • You lead all engineering activities across all relevant disciplines. You evaluate the progress of activities in the project. You monitor changes in timelines, engineering cost, (new) risks, planning, and deliverables.
  • You oversee the development and implementation of new (technological) innovations and work packages in projects. You stay up to date regarding new developments and trends in technology and the market. You translate these for the benefit of Van Oord and future projects. You initiate improvements for your projects and the engineering department.

YOUR IMPACT

You are part of a Project Management Team in which you report directly into the Project Director/ Manager (hierarchical) and to the Manager Engineering Office (functional, EE Department MT. Your playing field stretches across multiple disciplines, very diverse geographies, and across all boundaries (land and sea). Within this role you are also responsible for:

  • During tendering you work closely with the tender manager. During preparation and execution phase you work closely with the Project Director and align with Package or Operations managers.
  • Your focus is to be the technical conscience in the tender and project and sparring partner for the commercial and operational colleagues.
  • You co-create a high performing culture that embodies the Van Oord Core values.
  • You act as a coach and inspirator to your colleagues.

You build collaborative relations with internal and external stakeholders for the benefit of Van Oord’s clients.

You act with the customer needs and Van Oord’s future in mind and take responsibility for the Engineering scope in tenders and projects in collaboration with Client, Stakeholders and Operations. Your engineering management strategy is in line with and contributes to the Van Oord’s ways of working and overarching strategy.

YOUR WORKPLACE

You will be based in our Rotterdam office and available for regular travelling. As you will be involved in tendering, preparation and execution you will also be based for certain periods on projects abroad

ABOUT YOU

You are analytically strong, have experience in marine construction (in broad sence) and natural leader who is not deterred by the complexity, requirements and, preconditions that characterize our large scale marine infra projects. You are a people manager and have strong communication skills to create support, coordinate and motivate people. You can adapt, but you can also push back and make immediate decisions when necessary.   • You have a university degree in civil engineering (offshore, hydraulic engineering or geotechnical engineering is a pre but not a requirement);
  • You have at least 15 years of relevant work experience in civil marine infrastructure;
  • You have excellent reporting and communication skills in English;
  • You are willing to live in The Netherlands but also available to work abroad for longer periods.
