This role would be a good fit for you if:

As a junior Linux Engineer at AS Watson, you will work with the 1000+ Linux servers they have in their data centers in London and Amsterdam. The emphasis in this role is on patching and the increasing use of Microservices. What will you be working on concretely?

• Installation and patching of Unix/Linux operating systems: you organize the installation of Unix/Linux operating systems on servers and plan the implementation of patches.
• Optimization of system performance: you ensure the efficient and fast operation of the Linux system, so that it meets the requirements of the users. Here you carry out system upgrades, identify malfunctions and solve them quickly.
• Management of physical server capacity: you analyze server performance, predict future needs and scale up server capacity if necessary. Placing and replacing hardware, and cabling this hardware in our data centers.
• Storage management: you monitor the various storage systems and create and expand the various virtual disks.
  Control of the hardware lifecycle: migrating functionality from existing hardware to new hardware.
• You are responsible for hardware upgrades and develop strategies for replacing outdated hardware.
• Maintenance of the backup and recovery policy: you develop and implement procedures for backups, regularly check the effectiveness of the backup system and ensure a reliable recovery policy.
• Keeping our Linux infrastructure safe: You manage our security tools and implement security solutions

What you'll need:

• It is important that you can work and think at Bachelor level.
• You are eager to learn and enthusiastic. You have a passion for IT and are motivated to master the world of Linux.
• You preferably already have experience with installing and patching servers and storage systems.
• You have excellent command of both Dutch and English, as both languages are widely used within the IT Group.
• You are a team player.
• You have an affinity with Microservices.
• You are willing to occasionally (once every four weeks) be on standby.
• In this team, work is done based on priorities. These can change during the day, which is why it is important that you are flexible and can switch quickly.
