The role

Damen Naval is seeking an experienced interim Industrial Hygienist to join our team for 18 months and contribute to the health and safety of our workforce aboard the frigate F126 and in our training facilities. As Industrial Hygienist, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our crew and employees. Your role will involve conducting thorough inspections, analysing potential hazards, and implementing control measures to minimize risks. You will collaborate closely with management, engineering, and operations teams to promote a culture of safety and compliance with regulations.

Key accountabilities

As Industrial Hygienist your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct comprehensive worksite evaluations to identify potential health hazards.
  • analyse data and prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Design and implement effective controls and personal protective equipment.
  • Stay up to date with regulations and industry trends, recommending appropriate changes.
  • Provide expert guidance to management, supervisors, and employees on industrial hygiene matters.
  • Conduct comprehensive worksite evaluations to identify potential health hazards, including exposure to hazardous chemicals, noise, vibration, biological agents, and physical hazards.
  • Analyse and interpret data collected from monitoring activities and prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with management, engineering, and operations teams to design and implement effective administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Stay up to date with regulations, industry trends, and advancements in industrial hygiene practices, and recommend appropriate changes to existing designs, procedures, and practices.
  • Function as a resource and provide expert guidance to management, supervisors, and employees on matters related to industrial hygiene and occupational health.

Skills & experience

As Industrial Hygienist, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Bachelor degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Certification as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desirable.
  • At least three years of experience in industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industrial hygiene principles.
  • Proficiency in conducting exposure assessments and noise monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis.
  • Ability to travel to various worksites as needed.
  • Fluency in English and preferably German.
  • Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
