The UvA/AUAS Library is looking for a Community Manager DSC for 32 hours per week.

As Community Manager you will be working for the Amsterdam Data Science Centre (DSC) to help us bring the UvA data science strategy to the local level: data science communities driven by researchers.

The mission of the DSC is to enhance the university’s research by developing, sharing and applying data science methods and technologies. The DSC is part of the UvA Library and led by the scientific director. As the main coordinating hub for data science the DSC facilitates funding, knowledge exchange as well as the training of skills related to digital and data-driven research and drives innovation, diffusion and cross pollination of data science across the university.

Our offer

We offer a temporary contract for 32 hours a week for the duration of 10 months. This position is temporary due to maternity leave.

Your salary, depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between €3,377 to €4,640 gross per month (salary scale 9) based on a full working week of 38 hours. In addition, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.

What will you be doing?

Using your experience and skills you are able to connect the researchers and partners of the UvA Data Science Centre.

  • You bring together participants from different disciplines; expanding and deepening our network. You manage the various programs of the DSC and make sure these run smoothly;
  • Together with the DSC scientific director, the board and library teams you initiate collaboration and knowledge exchange, support data science-related events and activities and help develop our training programs;
  • You manage our communications and develop content together with the library’s communication advisor and the participants and partners of the DSC;
  • You coordinate our website, socials and news messages and co-organize events such as our training courses and the annual DSC Data Science Day.

In short, you make sure researchers take advantage of the opportunities we offer and enthusiastically support the DSC.

Requirements

As our community manager DSC you:

  • have a university degree (Dutch HBO, WO or equivalent) and relevant working experience;
  • are fluent in English, both written and verbal;
  • have an interest in data science and scientific research;
  • have demonstrable experience in communication, community management, community building, event organization and social media;
  • have great organizational and project management skills;
  • are pragmatic, hands-on and have good social skills;
  • are a good listener and can be persuasive when necessary;
  • can work independently and know how to set priorities.
