Are you the geotechnical engineer who is eager to contribute to challenging projects in The Netherlands? Are major infrastructure works and complex breakwater reinforcement projects your thing? Then read on!

The position

Van Oord is executing major infrastructure works such like the Rotterdam ring road connection and dike improvement projects such as The Afsluitdijk and the dike reinforcement Tiel-Waardenburg. For all these projects, Van Oord geotechnical engineers provide input in the tender and execution stages.

As a geotechnical engineer for our business unit Dredging and Infra, you are involved in the design and engineering of projects of Van Oord in The Netherlands. We are looking for more and less experienced geotechnical engineering colleagues! You will work together with a team of 20 geotechnical engineers.

You will design permanent and temporary structures, identify and mitigate risks and suggest ingenious solutions for the many challenges the subsoil can present. To achieve this, you work together in multidisciplinary teams consisting of a diverse group of people from both technical and non-technical disciplines, and sometimes from other companies.

Your responsibilities

You are the point of contact for the geotechnical aspects of the project. Whether it concerns settlement analyses, stability analyses, embankment design or the implementation of innovative applications. With the in-depth analyses, checks and designs that you create, you lay the foundation for our work. In addition, at Van Oord we are working hard on the digitization and automation of geotechnical design. We would like you to actively contribute to this too! Furthermore, you:

  • Will set up, supervise and interpretate soil research;
  • Write technical advice in the field of foundations, retaining structures, settlement, stability, ground improvement and influencing existing surrounding objects;
  • Actively contribute to the development of new geotechnical design tools;
  • Advise the internal organization in the field of geotechnics;
  • Apply advanced soil modelling, automated design processes.

Job requirements

With your analytical skills and attention to detail, you deliver solid technical products. You make full use of the knowledge and practical experience of your fellow engineers and enjoy geotechnics.

Next to that:

You have a completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil- or geotechnical engineering (or a similar study background);

You preferably have at least 1 year of working experience in a similar position for the junior position and at least 4 years of experience for the medior position;

You preferably have experience with software including Plaxis and Deltares D-series, experience with SE systems and experience with Python;

You have excellent command of the Dutch and English language both verbally and written;

You are fulltime available (minimal 32 hours) and willing to travel regularly to our office in Rotterdam and our project locations in The Netherlands.

We offer

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home office allowance (€2,15 per day);
  • 32 leave days per year;
  • Variable bonus;
  • Pension scheme;
  • Collective health insurance (optional);
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis;
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz;
  • You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
  • We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport, weekend of sailing, cycling and a motorcycle tour.
