About the role

Dyson offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to develop our advanced Dyson Hyperdimium Motors technology. Manufactured in-house, at an automated production facility, these motors are used exclusively in our market leading products to give us a key advantage in the global market.

You will be based in Singapore Advanced Manufacturing – SAM, joining the Research Design and Development, DDM (Dyson Digital Motor) Mechanical Design team. These individuals have the opportunity to work alongside leading technical specialists and highly motivated creative people, to develop and support unique, high technology motors from a prototype stage through to mass production. Some of your tasks could include:

  • Work with global RDD teams of various disciplines to create/design new technology of Dyson Hyperdimium Motor, including product integration across both NPI and existing platforms, and current product support by upholding Dyson’s high-performance culture.

  • A proactive problem solver to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly & validated through appropriate test methods.

  • Use established Dyson methodology, good engineering practice & discipline to deliver robust solutions in agreed timeframe, such as but not limited to Tolerance Stack Analysis, Process Capability (Cpk), DFMEA, DFM/DFA, etc.

  • Perform hands-on approach in motor build prototyping and using basic measurement equipment, including ability to design required jig and fixture setup, and perform Proof of Principle machine evaluation and buy-off.

  • Deliver and maintain design documentation such as drawings, Bill of Material, limit test reports timely through Engineering Change as required.

  • Communicate between all relevant teams to ensure effective & timely input/escalation - these may be external as well as internal.

  • Manage sub-project tasks assigned and hold technical discussion with internal and external cross-functional team as required.

  • Challenge & develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve technologies/design/product quality.

About you

  • Master/bachelor’s in Mechanical Design / Engineering Degree from an internationally recognized university.

  • Minimally 2 years of mechanical design experience in developing Mechanical Design solutions for precision engineering-intensive product in a matrix environment.

  • Experience in leading and delivering at least 2x full technology/product realization, working collaboratively with cross functional team internally and externally.

  • Sound working knowledge in design of moulded and or machined components and assemblies for high volume and high precision application, including manufacturing methodologies, technologies, and common issues.

  • Sound understanding & experience in GD&T application and interpretation, tolerance stack creation and analysis, process capability (Cpk), and precision measurement systems/methods.

  • A well-rounded mix of experimental, theoretical and design skills. Aptitude in hands-on prototype lab work, including but not limited to test, assembly & measurement jig design.

  • Team player & self-starter, excellent communication in English (both verbal & written).

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of Motor drive or precision mechanical systems with a variety manufacturing technology.

  • Lean Six Sigma and or GR&R experience.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (preferably Unigraphics), with other statistical tools such as PLM and Minitab are an advantage.

  • Knowledge of simulation tools model mechanical systems including FEA and CFD.
