Purpose of the internship

You will join as a Electrochemistry & Analytics trainee to R&D Surface Innovation and Analytics team of AkzoNobel at Sassenheim (NL) and work on development of professional expertise on novel developments and sesnoring coatings. This project is in close collaboration with senior researchers in the Marine Protective Coatings & Expertise Center Corrosion. You will be trained on novel tachnologies, and will support the project team for use of state-of-the-art coatings for corrosion monitoring using data analytics. Technical background: Corrosion is one the major processes leading to material destruction/degradation. As a thermodynamically favorable process, corrosion is inevitable. Yet, it can be kinetically controlled through appropriate mitigation methods. Protective coatings are one of such mitigating measures, playing a critical role in asset protection. Despite the protection offered by coatings they are prone to damage. Additionally, corrosion can occur before the coating is fully degraded. Hence real-time monitoring of corrosion, coatings and associated parameters is of outmost importance in structural health evaluation. With this new project, we focus on enabling the coatings and corrosion monitoring via active coatings and analytics.

  • Duration internship: 9 - 12 months
