Job Description

Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) is one of the world's leading global Foodservice businesses, with an ambitious growth agenda and a clear purpose: “We free you to love what you do”.

The UFS R&D team in Hive is driving project delivery for different food technologies for the professional kitchen, as used in soups, seasonings, sauces, meal applications, mayonnaise and dressings. The small team of specification and labeling technologists drives the delivery of the UFS Digital and Data related topics in close cooperation with other colleagues within UFS local, regional or global teams.

As a member of the UFS R&D Team, the Specification and Labelling Technologist will focus on R&D Data Management by creating and updating product and labelling specifications for UFS, with primary focus on the creation of so called PIRD/labelling specifications according to the highest quality standards. The job will mainly involve specification and labelling work for UFS products produced either internally or by third party suppliers.

Main job purpose

Job summary

  • Create and maintain high quality product specifications including labelling for products across the UFS portfolio. These will include mayonnaise and dressings, liquid and dry savoury products and desserts.
  • Support continuous improvement of copack frameworks, processes, and ways of working to enhance efficiency, data quality, and compliance.
  • Work on UFS back-log, mismatches observed in the system and issues that have been observed during information updates.
  • Make the specifications compliant to European Food Law, verify against regulatory rules, comply to quality standards and model specs.
  • Verify discrepancies in the specifications in cooperation with food technologists, supply chain, project teams and/or ingredient experts and act accordingly.
  • Assure full consistency of respective product and labelling data in Unilever IT systems, notify immediately in case of discrepancies in specifications, and assure the specifications pass the required approval steps.
  • Manage timing of own tasks, assuring tasks are delivered on time.
  • When needed, help colleagues in managing the interface requests coming from factories regarding adaptation of general and plant recipes as outcome of their productions.
  • Formulation development, sample preparation and testing with chefs for dry soups & sauces.
  • Be a pro-active team member, communicate project status and issues in time.
  • Drive a digital and data culture in UFS by being an ambassador of IT tools and digital processes.
  • Participate in UAT testing, train colleagues, advise the Digital & Data team, and drive improvements in IT tools and digital processes.

Key requirements

  • BSc degree in Food Technology, Food Law, Biotechnology or similar relevant area.
  • Applied expertise/experience in labelling of a wide range of food products with focus on the European market.
  • Knowledge of European Food Law and labeling.
  • Knowledge and working experience in IT systems, with focus on SAP-PLM.
  • Experience in creation of specifications for different food product designs (dry, wet, dressing, single and multi components) is an advantage.
  • Good communication skills, ability to work in a multifunctional and multicultural team.
  • Attention to detail, a structured and consistent way of working, and a problem solving mindset, staying calm in hectic situations.
  • Ability to work independently as a data technologist in an R&D focused environment in which teamwork and network building are very important.
  • Pro-active attitude and an entrepreneurial drive; always looking for opportunities and ways to improve ways of working.
  • Enthusiastic team player, flexible and reliable, who can function in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Resilient, able to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.
