We are looking for a Chapter Lead Azure Platform within the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Grid at ABN AMRO. In this role, you combine technical depth with people leadership and help strengthen the IT craftsmanship of engineers while contributing to the direction of the Grid’s IT landscape. You help shape how the organization works with Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions, SaaS platforms, and bespoke applications.

This role is about improving quality, making thoughtful technical choices, and helping people grow.

At a glance

Are you an Azure professional who enjoys combining technical depth with people leadership? Do you like finding solutions that actually work in a complex enterprise landscape? Then this role might be a great fit.

Your job

As Chapter Lead, you combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership and people responsibility. You will:

  • Spend around half of your time working as an IT Engineer within your own scrum team, contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of solutions.
  • Take responsibility for the IT craftsmanship of your Chapter by helping engineers grow their skills, make better technical decisions, including clean design and an automation-first mindset, and take pride in the quality of their work.
  • Take responsibility for HR-related topics within your Chapter, such as onboarding, performance discussions, development planning, and team health.
  • Contribute to defining and evolving the IT vision and landscape of the NFR Grid together with Architects, Product Owners, and IT Leads.
  • Help teams navigate a mixed landscape of custom-built systems, COTS packages, and SaaS implementations.
  • Advocate for Agile and DevOps practices, Quality Assurance, and CI/CD, while staying pragmatic about what fits the context.
  • Make trade-offs between innovation, stability, security, and maintainability.
  • Help foster a safe, inclusive, and constructive working culture.
  • Continuously develop your own knowledge and help the Chapter stay current with Azure and cloud-native developments.

You don’t need to have all the answers, but you do need to enjoy guiding others toward them.

Working environment

The Chapter consists of around 10 engineers with varying levels of experience. You will collaborate closely with several of them in your block. The focus of the block is ensuring that Azure platforms, SaaS, and COTS solutions run reliably, securely, and efficiently within the NFR domain. The team continuously improves how solutions are deployed, released, monitored, and automated, always looking for sensible ways to simplify and modernize.

You report to the IT Lead, who acts as your sparring partner on topics such as staffing, architecture, and long-term direction.

You’ll work in an international, diverse environment where openness, technical discussion, and learning from each other are valued.

Your profile

You recognize yourself in the following:

Leadership & mindset

  • Experience in coaching and leading engineers.
  • Able to translate vision into clear direction and practical steps.
  • Comfortable balancing innovation with stability.
  • Strong communicator who connects easily with different stakeholders.
  • Motivated by improving both systems and people.

Technical strength

  • Solid experience with Azure cloud architecture (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
  • Experience with migration and modernization paths, from lift-and-shift to SaaS adoption.
  • CI/CD and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
  • Security and governance awareness (Azure Policy, RBAC, Defender for Cloud).
  • Monitoring and optimization using Azure-native tooling.
  • Networking and identity knowledge (VNets, Azure AD, Private Endpoints).
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM).

We are offering

Joining ABN AMRO means stepping into a role with impact, supported by employment conditions that foster job satisfaction, development, and wellbeing.

  • An excellent pension scheme, ensuring that you are well prepared for the future.
  • Flexibility in working: working from home is possible in consultation with your team and depending on your role. An ergonomic home office setup is provided.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year, supplemented by two mandatory days off, with the option to purchase up to four additional weeks annually.
  • Five “Banking for better days”: extra days off that you can use for personal development or volunteer work.
  • A development budget of €1,000 per year, which can accumulate up to €3,000.
  • An annual public transport pass with free public transportation throughout the Netherlands for both business and private use.
