Your role

At ING, we believe AI should solve real problems and create tangible value. As an AI Adoption Intern, you will support the Global Investment Center in identifying, designing, and structuring AI use cases that matter for the business and scalable way of working.

You will help structure what AI can do, what data and systems are needed, including already existing AI tools within ING, and how knowledge should be organized so that AI becomes embedded in daily ways of working.

This is not a traditional technical internship. It is a strategic, analytical and design-oriented role blending technical capabilities with creative mindset to unlock full AI potential in our journey to become a fully scalable Investment Engine of ING.

The team

The Global Investment Center (GIC) is at the heart of ING’s ambition to strengthen its global investment capabilities and create a single, scalable investment engine across markets.

As part of this journey, we are accelerating the practical adoption of AI across the full investment value chain at scale, across countries, focusing on real business value, not experimentation for experimentation’s sake.

To support this ambition, we are looking for high-potential interns who want to work at the intersection of AI, data and investment decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. AI use-case development

  • Identify and structure AI adoption use cases across the investment value chain.
  • Work with business teams to clearly articulate the problem to solve, expected value and AI suitability.
  • Contribute to prioritisation and decision-making around AI initiatives, including impact, feasibility, data readiness and scalability.
  • Consolidate initiatives and shape the roadmap.

2. AI knowledge and capability mapping

  • Design an AI knowledge map for the Global Investment Center, covering what is available today, how it should be structured for AI consumption, and where gaps need to be addressed.
  • Support the creation of information design, clear taxonomies, concepts and ontologies that can be used by AI tools and agents.
  • Help design the vision of an AI-ready Global Investment Center team and be ready to quickly guide team members in using AI tools already available at ING.

3. Data and systems alignment

  • Analyse and document data requirements for prioritized AI use cases.
  • Map current systems, data sources and dependencies in collaboration with Data, IT and content specialists.
  • Help articulate what is needed versus what already exists, including constraints and design trade-offs.

How to succeed:

We are looking for candidates who combine strong analytical thinking with curiosity about AI and real-world impact:

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a Master’s programme in AI, Data Science, Econometrics, Engineering, Business Analytics, Finance + Technology, or similar is a strong plus. However, we are looking for an AI wizard, so if you have the skills without formal studies, you are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interest in AI applied to business transformation, beyond purely technical modelling.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and structuring complex topics into clear frameworks.
  • Able, or willing to learn, to communicate effectively with stakeholders and translate between business needs and data/AI concepts.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

What We Offer:

  • A front-row seat to AI adoption in the Global Investment organization.
  • Competitive internship compensation and flexible working arrangements.
  • Meaningful work that contributes to real strategic decisions, not side projects.
  • A high-learning environment with space to shape your own thinking and deliverables.
  • Cross-market collaboration in a set-up explicitly designed for global production and local consumption at scale.
  • Exposure to senior professionals and industry leaders.
  • A collaborative and learning-focused environment.

Rewards and benefits

This is a great opportunity to train with highly skilled people who are experts in their field. You’ll do a lot and learn a lot, not only about your specialist area and the bank, but also about yourself and whether this type of environment is right for you.

  • Your own work laptop.
  • Hybrid working to blend home working for focus and office working for collaboration and co-creation.
  • Personal growth and challenging work with endless possibilities.
  • An informal working environment with innovative colleagues.

During the duration of your internship at ING, it is mandatory to be enrolled at a Dutch university (or EU-university for EU passport holders).
