As a TSO DSO Coordination intern in Arnhem, you work on a complex challenge within the energy transition. You analyze real grid and market data, study coordination between grid operators, and contribute to a reliable and well-functioning energy system.

The energy transition is impossible without you as an intern

During this graduation internship, you research how participation of distribution-connected customers in TSO balancing services impacts the distribution grid. Customers connected to the DSO may take part in TSO services such as aFRR and mFRR. This participation can cause congestion or voltage issues in the DSO network.

This means you will be working on:

  • Analyzing whether current customer participation in TenneT balancing services causes grid issues.
  • Assessing future developments and expected growth of balancing service participation.
  • Studying current TSO-DSO coordination mechanisms in the Netherlands.
  • Comparing international coordination approaches within and outside the EU.
  • Developing a recommended coordination mechanism for Alliander and TenneT.

You make the grid more complete at Alliander

You mainly work within System Operations Change, a department focused on operational challenges and system improvements within the energy system. The team consists of experts in grid operations, data analysis, and system coordination. You work closely with colleagues from other departments such as GAAS, R&I, and OCM. The working atmosphere is professional and open. Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and good supervision during your graduation assignment are key elements of the team.

You make the grid more energetic

Getting to know the business world while working on your personal development. We are happy to support you with that. You learn from us, and we learn from you. Especially if you also bring:

  • A WO (research university) degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field.
  • Experience with data analysis and working with large datasets.
  • Affinity with power systems, balancing markets, or grid coordination.
  • Interest in policy analysis and regulatory topics within the energy sector.
  • For this internship, it is required that you are living in the Netherlands and have a good command of the English language.

That is why you receive:

  • An internship allowance of €550.00 based on a 40-hour work week.
  • A laptop and, if needed for the assignment, a phone.
  • A mileage allowance if you do not have access to a student public transport card.
  • The opportunity to work on real coordination challenges at TSO-DSO level.
