Intern Regional Coordination Trinational Strategy Pantanal

We are looking for an English speaking master student!

Pantanal is recognized as the largest tropical wetland on the planet covering approximately 170,000 km2 in Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay, it is home of over 4500 species of flora and fauna such as the big mammals of South America such as Jaguar, anteater, maned wolf, and giant otter. This unique ecosystem is threatened by human activities that alter flood pulse such as infrastructure, land use change for agriculture, and climate change that increases droughts and temperatures and contributes to uncontrolled fires affecting grasslands, wetlands and forests.

Due to its ecological, hydrological and economic importance, Pantanal is considered by WWF a Priority Area of Conservation. Over the last 20 years the WWF Network through local offices in Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil has promoted inclusive conservation initiatives as part of its regional strategy known as an Environmental Action Plan (EAP). This plan constitutes WWF´s regional strategy for the Pantanal and has been recently updated to cover the period 2022 to 2030. The new EAP sets out an overall vision of a Pantanal in which nature and people thrive from a collaborative approach with governments, private sector, and civil society and includes four main strategies which are: Free Flowing Pantanal, Deforestation and Conversion Free Pantanal, Climate resilient Pantanal and Engaging, Mobilizing and Influencing for a sustainable Pantanal.

What will you be doing?

The intern on this position will support the Landscape coordinator and the EAP Regional Coordinator (RC) to ensure coordination and collaboration between WWF offices and with partners and the WWF network.

Activities:

• Monitoring/dashboard support: support the implementation of a dashboard to monitor the progress and impact of each country; systematise lessons learned and technical opportunities for regional work in each of the EAP strategies through work on the concept notes.
• Communications and fundraising: work with local Pantanal communications leads to implement the communications strategy by landscape; support the coordinator in developing a fundraising strategy and maintaining an updated funding portfolio (pipeline); support the Freshwater strategist at WWF NL with freshwater related work (10-20% of the time); collaborate in the translation and improvement of documents from Spanish to English and vice versa when necessary.
• Admin support: support the organisation of internal and external meetings with different stakeholders and systematise the agreement of these meetings with the Regional Coordinator and teams.

Inputs for the work include:

• Information from reports, means of verification and from country documents from the three countries.
• Information published on the web pages of the network in the different countries.
• Search for funding opportunities at the level of fundraising information in the Netherlands and other members of the network.
• Other relevant documents.

Who are we looking for?

WWF is looking for an enthusiastic master student (English and Spanish speaking) who is willing to become part of a small team, keen to learn new things, has a can-do attitude and is ready to provide support in several tasks. A student in one of these or similar master's studies:

• Hydrology or River Basin Management.
• Environmental Sciences.
• International cooperation.
• Communications/fundraising.

• An internship of 6 months from September 2026 till March 2027.
• € 550 allowance per month, based on full time work.
