In this role, you act as a financial business partner to Project Managers and Department Directors, by working closely with them in both the Proposal and Execution phases of projects. You are able to create a position in the organisation, where stakeholders know how to find you, and you make an impact by providing accurate information and asking the right questions.

What you will do as Project Controller Environment & Safety

In this role, you act as a business partner to project managers and line management across all stages of a project. You provide independent financial analysis, support in reporting and decision‑making, and help improve project performance by identifying risks, discussing project health, and challenging financial assumptions. You cultivate effective relationships with stakeholders and work largely independently while contributing to continuous improvement within the Finance function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Being a business partner for project managers throughout all project stages, performing independent analysis on project performance and supporting discussions using the monthly Project Health Check application.
  • Being a business partner to Line Management (Director Advisory Group and Associate Directors), assisting with financial analyses on project results, working capital, portfolio insights, P&L reviews, and workload vs. capacity assessments.
  • Supporting management with regular and ad‑hoc reporting and analyses.
  • Challenging proposal managers on financial and risk‑related topics during the proposal phase of non‑routine tenders.
  • Playing an active role in the Project Health Check process, providing forward‑looking analysis and identifying areas of improvement or concern that require escalation to line management.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

As our new Project Controller, you will be part of the advisory group Environment & Safety within the business unit Industry & Energy.

In this role, you will become an integral member of the advisory group. You will contribute to both financial processes and organisational aspects. The management team encourages a proactive approach from the Project Controller to bring improvements to the organisation. The Project Controller is a highly valued and influential member of the advisory group’s management team.

What you bring

The role requires strong communication and influencing skills, commercial awareness and the ability to act as a true business partner. The ideal candidate brings an analytical and forward‑looking mindset, is accurate and efficient, speaks the language of the business, and combines a proactive, independent approach with strong team‑player qualities.

Moreover:

  • Relevant Economics or Management Accounting degree (preferably at an academic level)
  • Fluent in Dutch and English
  • Thorough understanding of the finance & management control discipline and underlying principles
  • Basic knowledge of related disciplines such as data analytics, IT and risk management
  • Willingness to travel
