AH Technology includes the Data Differentiation Platform (DDP), which supports data management & cloud services across Albert Heijn. Within DDP, we have developed Thor - a groundbreaking, self-service data platform designed to empower both data producers and data consumers.

Built on top of Thor is the DataKitchen, our self-service platform for creating business-ready data sets for analytical use cases. DataKitchen removes the complexity of security, compliance, CI/CD and governance, allowing users to focus solely on writing transformation logic to create their models. The entire process is fully self-service for both data producers and consumers.

To support continued growth, add new features, and scale our data transformation tool, we are expanding the team. Our goal is to build a stable, mature team that can support the long-term future of the DataKitchen - and potentially other DDP products - as they are adopted across all brands in Europe and beyond.

This is why we need you! As an engineer working on the DataKitchen you will be building the tool that enables data engineers, analysts, and more, to transform and work with their data. You will bring your knowledge of data, and experience of building software, to ensure that the DataKitchen remains a powerful but simple tool for our users.

A grasp of the activities you will be focusing on:

1. Build DataKitchen v2 to give customers flexibility in how they design, operate, and scale their DataKitchen workflows.
2. Create a paved road for publishing DataKitchen-built data models into Power BI.
3. Ensure long-term product quality and customer success through strong onboarding of customers, proactive refactoring, and continuous improvements.

Key responsibilities:

• Enhance the core engine with smart data processing techniques, comprehensive validation, and performance optimization. Requires solid OOP Python skills, clean and maintainable code, and a passion for testing and optimization challenges.
• Extend our CI/CD pipelines – built with GitHub Actions – to support customer workflows and improve user experience.
• Develop and improve Terraform IaC modules to deploy user models and supporting assets on Databricks.
• Stay current with Databricks platform developments and the broader data landscape to ensure we are able to provide users with cutting-edge techniques and tools.
• Maintain fresh and accurate documentation that users can trust and rely on.

The recipe for maximum impact:

• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
• Experience with GitHub Actions
• Experience with Cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure
• Experience with Spark and/or Databricks
• Experience with Terraform is a plus
• Solid understanding of data modelling concepts
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• You’re tech savvy, pro-active and have a big passion for tech
