Want to make your mark on our time? Become an ICT Infrastructure Engineer - Manufacturing IT at TNO in Eindhoven!

About this position

At the forefront of Europe’s photonics innovation, TNO is building a state-of-the-art pilot line for Indium Phosphide (InP) photonic chips at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. As part of the EU-funded PIXEurope program, this pilot line will enable the transition from groundbreaking research to large-scale industrial manufacturing, making advanced photonic technologies faster, more reliable, and widely accessible.

What will be your role?

As the factory environment evolve, reliable IT infrastructure becomes a critical foundation for daily operations. Production systems, engineering tools, data platforms, and equipment connectivity rely on stable and secure infrastructure to ensure continuous manufacturing, reliable data availability, and efficient collaboration across teams.

To support the development and operation of this new manufacturing environment, we are looking for an ICT Infrastructure Engineer. In this role, you contribute to the stability, security, and continuous improvement of the IT infrastructure that supports factory operations.

You will operate at the interface of IT, engineering, and manufacturing, ensuring that infrastructure systems such as servers, networks, end-user environments, and security platforms operate reliably in a production environment where uptime and system performance are critical.

Your work directly supports the reliability and scalability of the factory as it evolves from pilot line development to full-scale wafer manufacturing.

As ICT Infrastructure Engineer, you are responsible for supporting and maintaining the IT infrastructure that enables daily operations across our manufacturing and engineering environment. You will work closely with IT colleagues, engineers, and production teams to ensure that infrastructure systems remain stable, secure, and aligned with operational requirements.

You contribute to infrastructure operations across multiple domains, including end-user environments, servers, networks, security systems, and data center components. In addition to maintaining existing systems, you support improvements and automation initiatives that increase reliability and operational efficiency.

Working in a high-tech manufacturing environment, you will play an important role in ensuring that the digital infrastructure supporting production systems, engineering platforms, and equipment connectivity operates reliably and securely.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, and peripherals.
  • Support users with hardware, software, and workstation-related network issues.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and network teams to resolve complex technical problems.

Infrastructure operations and systems management

  • Support the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and network systems.
  • Perform updates, patching, and system checks while ensuring minimal impact on production uptime.
  • Contribute to infrastructure performance improvements, automation, and operational efficiency.

ITIL / ITSM process execution

  • Execute activities within Incident, Change, Problem, Asset, and Configuration Management processes.
  • Use IT service management tools to track, document, and resolve infrastructure-related tasks.
  • Identify improvement opportunities based on operational metrics and incident trends.

IT security support

  • Support the implementation and operation of security controls such as endpoint protection, access management, and MFA.
  • Monitor security alerts and assist in investigating potential incidents.
  • Contribute to maintaining secure configurations, access policies, and network protection.

Systems administration

  • Support network communication, data center infrastructure, and system configuration.
  • Assist with capacity planning, monitoring, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Coordinate hardware installations, cabling, and system upgrades to improve reliability.

Documentation and knowledge sharing

  • Maintain documentation of infrastructure configurations, procedures, and workflows.
  • Develop troubleshooting guides and share knowledge with IT, engineering, and production teams.

What we expect from you

You are a technically oriented infrastructure engineer with a strong analytical mindset and an interest in supporting complex IT environments within a high-tech manufacturing setting.

You bring

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Approximately 3-7 years of experience in IT infrastructure, system administration, or a related technical role.
  • Solid knowledge of IT infrastructure components, including servers, networking, virtualization platforms, and storage systems.
  • Experience supporting desktop environments and end-user systems in a professional IT environment.
  • Familiarity with ITIL or ITSM processes such as Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
  • Basic understanding of IT security principles, including access management, endpoint security, and network protection.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including IT, engineering, production, and external vendors.
  • A structured and proactive working style with strong documentation and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in working within a high-tech or semiconductor manufacturing environment where system uptime and operational reliability are critical.
